No, I do not play in Tournaments either...I play only on Chess.com and once a week with a friend. I don't consider myself as a good enough player to play tournaments.

I wish I could join a club or play in tournaments etc, but I live in an area where I'd have to make quite a journey to a big city I think, I've looked into local clubs but can't find much information, and I don't want to have to go all the way to sheffield when I'm not really good enough in the first place.

How far can it be? Here in the American West, we drive farther every day than some of you blokes in England manage in a lifetime.

delta5ply

Ziryab, just because he doesn't live in the US doesn't mean he can't travel! By the way, what's a bloke?

That's my point as was stated clearly.

Use a dictionary.

It isn't so much the distance thats the issue, I'd explain further if I thought it would actually be worthwhile.

One can play correspondence tournaments online, via email. (Or snail mail.)
TheOldReb
You dont have to be a strong player to play in tournaments nor to join a club. Many people play just because they love the game and some love tournaments...no matter their results.

I've played in a great number of under 18 tournaments around England, and I can assure you that they are great fun. Maybe we should organise a tournament here on chess.com. We could get people to sign up and then create a fixtures table perhaps?

TheOldReb
I play tournaments because I have fun, I enjoy them. I sometimes have good results and sometimes bad but most often my results are mediocre. The play is the thing, and the social interaction with so many suffering with the same sickness. Smile
