How many people think that; Chess is just a Total Waste of Time in Life!

Aristotle said that metaphisics is the more important of the sciences, cos it is the less usefull of then. If chess is useless and despite this a lot of people devote whole lives on it, you cannot just jump to the dumb conclusion that this people are dumb. Sadly, we live in a materialistic age where we fell bad doing things who dont bring any material return. (Sorry for the bad english).

Does anybody know how many angels can dance on the head of a pin? (precision not required - an estimate's fine)
Trick question. We all know angels don't dance.
Oh, right, I forgot -- Almost everybody gets to dance, except for angels and Methodists.
If Chess Is a waste od Time, then:
Video games Is a waste of time and should be banned
Tiktok, twitter, and facebook should be banned
Honestly the whole world will only Study at that point, which Is When fun Is nonexistant
Totally agree ! Chess is like maths. It doesn't feel like just a game to me. It's a combination of some serious study And fun. So, this is what makes chess interesting . I never felt it's a waste of time. If you feel that way, then I would like to remind you that there are many things we consume daily that are totally waste. Like, instagram, fb, tiktok. Then, they have to be considered as a garbage compared to chess. So, chess is much better than other social Media Apps

Just because something is "a waste of time" doesn't mean we need to ban or forbid it, just realize that some activities we do are not as productive as we would like to believe.
Also, while youtube and facebook, and other social media, can be used for cat videos and memes... they can also be used for lectures from university around the world and communication with different people about work/study/volunteering. So social media isn't bad by default, people just prefer to relax instead of be productive 24/7.

Personally I'm grateful for every brilliant brain that "wastes" its time avoiding bishop blunders on a board, when it could be doing something "productive," like building bigger bombs.

This is what I think when I'm losing. But if I'm on a winning streak, chess is the greatest game of all time and should be played more!

Chess isn't a waste of time. But it is dangerous. How? The most obvious example: If you threw a Bishop really really hard, you could Put somebody's Eye Out!

You could do that with one of those stubby golf pencils. It's a hazardous world, so go forth boldly and don't be afraid of small flung objects!

Thank you Dr S, once more, for your words of wisdom! As always, you bring me calm. In fact, I had been planning to bring up those small, innocent-looking, but potentially lethal stubby golf pencils next, but you anticipated my concern and addressed that danger as well. Bless you.
Now I'll leave it to others to tackle the inevitable question that follows: "How many people believe that Golf is just a Waste of Time in Life?!!"

we are flirting with some basic philosophical questions.
knowing my limited intellect, I say to myself, keep it simple stupid.
If you think it's a waste of time, then it is a waste of time. If you don't think its a waste of time then it is not a waste of time.
I try to do things that give me pleasure.
However one has to be in a position to be able to do that.
Many people just fight to survive. That is how life evolved. We are just an animal. I am always amazed that people find that so difficult to accept.

Well apart from riding motorbikes I find there is nothing really better to do than play chess. Everything else is too boring. ..TV I can't stand that poxy lying thing, I feel like beating it.

No. It is not boring. I stopped playing last few weeks. Well, when I have mood, I will play. No bondage. Right?
With the right person, bondage can be a game changer.

How many people think that; Chess is just a Total Waste of Time in Life!
In the long run, EVERYTHING is a total waste of time.
Chess is no worse than any other pursuit in that respect.

No pursuit worse than any other? I don't know about that. One day 3 years ago, shortly after the pandemic started, I was browsing through the internet and I ran across a Big Sale on artificial succulents. I'd never been into crafts before, but I bought some ... they looked pretty ..and trust me, it was a Helluva Big Sale! Next, I found an unusual little ceramic bowl, and I arranged the colorful little fake succulents in the bowl. It was fun. I made more and then more. it's still fun, and it's legal, and no animals are killed in the process, so I'm still making them.
Now: Surely that is a more egregious waste of time than chess! -- and I'm willing to fight anyone who says it's Not! ... ... Which leads us to the next question: what about "actually fighting over whether arranging fake succulents is a worse waste of time than playing chess? Isn't fighting about that controversy even worse?
Finally, isn't writing an excruciatingly long discussion of the relatively time-wasting attributes of "playing chess" vs. "putting phony succulents in a bowl" a truly appalling time-waster? And as for what you are doing right now: reading a bunch of drivel bout this pointless topic, well, just don't get me started! ... Alas, it's too late. It has to be said, Dear Readers: I'm afraid I've lost respect for you.
