The rule of thumb I use is: can you go to any game and know what the opening was without looking, and have a sense of what the plan is?
If you can't you're probably playing too many games.

Ok, sure... there's probably no right answer but I'm curious about your thoughts. I used to play 10-20 games at a time, but found that I would often forget strategies and tend to make quick decisions. Now I try to play 3 or less with the intention of calculating many candidate moves. I might even try just having one correspondence game at a time. More games might lead to better tactical vision however. What do you think? How many do you play?
