1, 2, or 3 hours a day. I replay master games trying to guess there moves before the book tells me.
How Much Time Do You Put Into Chess

I don't know Hugh. I read and study but don't about my games that much. If I win and talk about, some say I'm bragging and if I lose they say I whinning. So I sorta stopped talking. Glad your studing though.

Yeah, there's no pleasing some people. Obviously I have to do a lot more studying after our last game. Oh yeah, by the time we finish our 9233 games I'll about a 100 years old.

I think if you study chess, try really hard in games to become better, or the best that you can be -then your putting time into chess. Like you do Hugh T Patterson.
However, if you come on this site (or what ever you do) and just batter out games and what not, your not really putting anything into chess.
I've spent a lot of time on tactics trainer. Now this may seem like study - or putting some time towards chess, but this is not the case. I play through the problems, try to understand them to a degree, but there is definitly a cut off point regarding effort. Because of this, again I feel that I'm not actually investing myself into chess.
Do you know what I mean?
So, I'd say I invest close to nothing, but play alot :)
Thanks for running this thread Hugh... it has definitely helped me. Maradonna's second paragraph is my chess wake up call! It has summed up why my chess is not progressing, and I need to start seriously actioning my chess play to get out of my rating v game play rut!
chess is the greatest game ever invented!
....well...and baseball of course!
i see this game.... as a game against myself.
and most the time..... im on the losing end!
i really enjoy playing chess.
i most get to play after work in the afternoons. inthe mornings onthe weekends.
i have got up at 5:30am to play
i have played at 2,3,4,5am. i have never pplayed at work....
u know...i really enjoy this site...its cool.
i will say that i probably..on average spend between 1 and 2 hours each day
playing...and if i dont play, then do 1 or maybe 2 puzzles.
those puzzles are pretty good, especially for players like myself, because i am a
veeeeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyyy slow player.....the clock is one of my greatest
enemies!!!!!
but im willing to learn, i play to have fun, challenge my brain, and learn from all
those players out there in chess dot com world who have defeated me on the
field of battle...
.....
.....
.....
......
.....
... the list is long and they
know who they are
.
seriously, i cant say how many hours is enough, but first one must enjoy playing
game...no matter what your intentions may be in this game (to be a pro or
just a passive player).
the one thing i will tell u is that those puzzles are a good way to help
oneself get better because they put u in the game mode without the pressure of
the clock or.......the 2700+grandmaster of the universe on the other
end of the board that seems to know your every move
before u even think about it yourself!
have fun.
