How Much Time For Chess Puzzles?

How long does everyone spend on chess puzzles/tactics per day?

I used to do them habitually every day, but it was quality over quantity and it wasn't the hours per day many of my friends report doing. Some puzzles are easier to do (few seconds to solve), but the puzzles at a certain point (idk, let's just say 2000+ chess.com for simplicity, but the exact number probably varies for everyone) take more effort because of the need to calculate, double check lines, count material and so on.

I'm interested how long ALL puzzles take people and how much time a day they work on chess puzzles, but I'm especially interested for those players also solving 2500+ chess.com rated puzzles. How long does it take per puzzle usually? Does it take 15 minutes like some endgame studies, or are you solving them in seconds like Nakamura?

Never got up to the 2500+ rated puzzles but in general 30 minutes a day should be pretty useful if you can do it consistently, and 1 hour per day is even better.

I normally just try to solve a puzzle until I find the solution. If it is speed you want go and play puzzle rush in Lichess.org. Because you get unlimited amount of them lol

I spend usually at least 30 minutes on puzzles and puzzle rush a day, on good days I’ll sound enough time to get almost all of the puzzles, but most of the time I’m too lazy to and end up spending just a few seconds on each move, like today

Avatar of sndeww

On average, two minutes per day. On a weekly basis.

Usually I just spend 30 seconds on the whole puzzle...

Though I'll either do near to none or do like 50 so

Forever for me.

Then I laugh when one of my friends does it in 45 seconds haha

I actually took a long break from survival rush because it was going on too long for my liking.

3600 pb puzzles & 72 survival here:

take all the time you need to try to get them right... guessing would defeat the purpose of the training.

Exactly 2 hours per day of puzzle solving every day for the last ~18 months or so, solving out of either checkmate patterns manual on chessable or Woodpecker method physical book.

I also do puzzle rush and tactics on chess.com pretty much every day, but I don't consider that serious puzzle solving, I just do it for fun.

Avatar of cvjdbkgxc

Depends on the tactic. Sometimes it's obvious or something I'm familiar with, or I spend five minutes wondering if the person who made the puzzle was insane or if I'm just a fool.

Avatar of Dragolm

Umm wait so am I the only who doesn't really look up tactics and do many puzzles?
