How old were you when you started playing chess.

I was about 5.

Sharukin

Eight I think. It was a long time ago.

I was probably around 6 years old. It took me at least another six years before |I could beat my father who had no training whatsoever.

Extraordinary

I was too something about 4-7 years old, but seriously I stated playing chess 13 ( I am now 14) I am rated 1700 by the way =)

TheMoonwalker

I was three :)

I have only had a couple of pauses after that lasting for about half a year each :)

Moon...;)!

Probably 4 or 5.  However, between the ages of 12 and 35, I probably played less than one game a year.  So I'm making up for a lot of lost time recently!

I'd have to guess I started playing around 7 or 8 when my uncle first taught me the basics. I'm still learning over 20 years later.

EnoneBlue

um I learned how to play november of last year when i descovered chess through chess.com!! I play at about 1700 level on this site (the only site i play on). And im about 1500 OTB, my dream is to become at least GM so im trying to learn fast. When i lose to someone in OTB I usually come back to beat them in a month or two (exept for some really high rated people i played 2000+)

Chamb

I was 7.  My dad had a chess program on the computer.  The computer taught me the basics of how to play.  Smile

Nice rating for starting in November

Learned "how the pieces move" at 7.

Learned that "knowing how the pieces move" and "knowing how to play" are two very different things at the age of 27.

Sometimes I think I'm STILL trying to learn how to play... LOL.

Suddenly, I feel very old.

When I was 7, the only computer that could beat a human at chess was HAL-9000.
