This is an example that I thought was very instructive. It is from the post-mortem computer analysis of a game I played.
BLACK TO MOVE:
Here, it might be quite obvious to you that the immediate plan for black is to push their c and b queenside pawns... But if you are like me and want to push the c-pawn first (since it seems like you get to bring about your plan with a tempo), you might find yourself running into a nice tactic.
If you calculated this, you would know that the b pawn is the correct one to push first.
I thought this was a neat example and a good reminder that tactics aren't just offensive, but a big part in defense and planning. Obviously, black is probably a good bit better in both scenarios, but I would much rather have the position resulting in playing b4 first.
Thank you for your time.
