How the hell do I use an isolated passed pawn?

Trade off all the pieces. Use the isolated passed Pawn to draw the enemy King off-side, while your own King raids the enemy Pawns on the other wing and creates a new passed Pawn.

Surely being up a pawn can't be that bad?

Sounds smart, but I can't figure out a way to trade the rooks if they're standing behind/in front of the pawn. With the queens on the board, it gets even trickier

Typically, the best way to trade pieces is NOT to chase the enemy piece around the board offering trades, but instead to put your own pieces in such strong, powerful positions that the opponent will come to YOU and offer a trade, just to get rid of your strongly placed piece.
It just always feels like being up an isolated passed pawn is more of a liability than it is an asset. It gives my opponent a clear game plan, whereas I have to spend tempi and ressources trying to defend said pawn. Plus, I still have to come up with a plan of my own, which more often than not, makes me end up losing the game either cause my pieces get tangled up together, or the pawn turns out to be borderline impossible to defend (or not worth defending at all). The result usually is a massive trade of pieces, the loss of the passed pawn and a depressing endgame in which I have no play whatsoever
Can somebody pls help a fella out?
