It's very simple, you just need to become better than the 99.999% of other chess players and that'll do. For comparisons sake, it's just as easy as having an annual income of $10 M in the U.S.

According to FIDE, there are more than 600 million chess players on the planet. 1,721 of them have been awarded the Grandmaster title. Do the math. You are never going to be a grandmaster.
