I'm getting premium membership soon and I'd like to know any tips you guys have on getting to pro status. I'm pretty well educated on opening variations (nothing specific, just basics), strategy and tactics, and simple endgame theory.

Thats like asking how to join a Proffesional Soccer team when you just bought yourself some gear. The thing is, being a GM is similar to being a Pro Athlete, so in order to become one, you'll have to train (play) almost every day, practice (study tactics and positional play with the help of a Chess Coach/Books/Websites) And compete (Play in tournaments to show how much you have improved). It may take three years, or up to 20, but if you want to become one, you'll have to take the challenge. But unlike sports, there is no age limit (Unless you're 60+ years old or something) So dont worry too much about hurrying. And good luck!

we don't know your age, your tournament experience, etc.

I'm assuming your young, since its so much more possible when you are young.  if that assumption is right, than none of the stuff you said really matters too much except- Stick with it!  become intersted and start playing tournaments.  join a chess club and/or find a chess coach.  hopefully you have the support of your parents on this.

but as a parent, its important that you show its not a whim.

on the other hand, if you are old like me.  the cards are stacked against you.  I don't know of a single gm in the modern age that wasn't a talented teenager.  perhaps in your college years you could catch up.

the gm title is a REALLY high mark.
