I like figuring out why are things are designed and built the way they are. In your example situation, an airport is filled with all kinds of specialized equipment. I could easily spend a whole day contemplating why that equipment was designed the way it is, what could make it better, why the whole airport is laid out the way it is, etc. Everything interests me so I don't have to go far to keep amused.
Need suggestions: How to challenge your mind only using your mind ?!

I would tame the invisible tornadoes until they were nothing more than symmetrical glasses of orange juice sitting side by side in my mind, using only my mind to do so.

..hhahha, fortunately I am not that crazy (who knows..)

i mean any mental puzzle (not chess puzzle) or a simple game with rules that u can play if u were blind and paralized and muted

Given this is a chess forum shouldn't you be carrying a portable game with you always? :)
portable ?.. everything is in my bags :S

How bout play Fischer random in your head
O.K... then i would be Fisher myself ;)

I pick out a word on a sign, and then using the letters of that word, I see how many other words I can discover, but that gets boring too.

Try multiplying numbers in your head and see how high you can go.
Try to list all the states alphabetically.
Pick out a letter and see how many animals/cities/vegetables/etc. You can name that start with that letter.
Pick out a letter and come up with a word that starts with that letter; then come up with a word that starts with the last letter in that word, i.e., "kangaroo" "oboe" "ebony" yak" "koala."
I don't know if any (or all) of these will get you through 5 hours, though.

i would suggest playing blindfold chess against yourself, but you don't seem to want to do so. Look up some kind of mental games on the interenet, or something like that

See how high you can count in prime numbers.
Multiplying large numbers. start with 2 digit by 2 digit and work your way up to 2 digit by three digit etc.
Try to turn phrases you encounter into anagrams.
Telekenesis.

good ideas, what is an anagram ?

I usually try to have the knight move across the entire board 1 square per 3 moves. For instance, I start at a1. Then it goes to b3 and d2 before landing on b1. Then it goes to c3 and e2 before landing on c1. Once I finish on one rank, I go back on the next rank.

Like "innostunut sonni" or "saippuakauppias" in Finnish (there are likely English examples as well, Finnish is just excellent for these, though). The same sentence reads the same inversed. Simple as that.

nnnice 1, i note!
Is there a 'mental' game or something to challenge your mind ? I was wondering if there is, because It happened to me and I hate to be bored to death. Is there any mental-puzzles ? Aside from chess, is there any interesting game created by somebody to play only with your imagination? Any suggests are welcome !!
