You should experiment with various openings and find which ones you're comfortable with. Also there's nothing wrong with playing Kan Sicilian or French defence. There are many ways to respond to e4, like e5, Caro-Kann, Alekhine defence, modern defence, Scandinavian defence and many others. But no one will laugh at you for playing an obscure opening, just as long as you don't fall into scholar's mate or fool's mate.

How do i figure out what would be a good opening repertoire for me as black and white?
also how many openings should I play against 1.e4 and 1.d4? Is one opening choice against each of them ok? Or should i try to play all of them?
if i play the Kan sicilian, will people laugh at me because i did not choose to play the french defense?
