How to counter the Trompowsky Attack?
There's one 'counterintuitive' idea (recommended by engine), and the other one which I like:
Ne4 with the idea of g5 and h5 next. Leads to a messy game, but still interesting to study.
There's also after for example 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bg5 d5 3. Nc3 Nbd7! I like this one. The idea is quite simple: Just go e6-Be7-O-O and after that you can start with c5 on the center, or take it more slowly first, which I like to do, b6-Bb7 then afterwards c5. Even though it's equal, black feels to have a really nice position
Good luck (:
I have a hilarious gambit line, but it’s not rlly your style…
Lots of fun continuations from here, but it’s not the soundest

I like this! I usually go for the simple d5 after Bf4, but e5!? kind of interesting...
I guess my playing style would've personally gone for 4... g5 first before 4... d5 though. Nonetheless, both seem interesting ![]()

That is crazy…. I'll go d5 or e6 probably, Ne4 is too crazy for me….

There's so many fun ideas after Qf6 - I can't take credit for the invention of this, that goes to an NM who's name escapes me, but I've done a fair amount of research into it and there's some properly gnarly lines - here's my lichess study if you want to explore...

If you play classically and respond to 1.d4 with 1...d5 The Tromp isn't that sharp of an opening. (one still has to know how to deal with it... but as long as you defend classically your chances of going into the middle game being close to equal is high)
IMO... that all changes if respond to 1.d4 with an Indian defense. The tromp attempts to jam the standard Indian counter attacks from the jump, pushing the game into territory that Most Indian players are not all the familiar with.
