check on computer workout, do you mean the two bishop mate?

saisree

but i did

Scottrf

Have you tried this?

You can play best move to get an idea of the patterns. The key is just cutting off the squares for the enemy king.

saisree

yes scottrf

saisree

but for me its impossible! I really first follow the pattern but always end up in a stalemate or draw! I do know that you are supposed to block the king's squares, and that is exactly what I always do!

Scottrf

You need your bishops working together keeping the king boxed in, and to step up with your king when you can to force the opposition king towards the edge. I just recorded me delivering it against the computer workout, hope the annotations help.

Don't completely block the other king, just prevent the king from getting close to the center!

P.S.You should use both bishops to block consecutive diagonals and prevent the other king from jumping over one blockage path one of your bishops makes.

#1. stop thinking its impossible. it isnt.
#2. do NOT make a move until you confirm that his king has a square to go to (unless its checkmate).
#3. when your bishops are side by side, their king cannot touch them, so you can take your time and walk your king closer to force him back. if they are front back, the front bishop can be approached by their king so only allow his king to get next to your bishops while oriented like this if you are on your next move capable of protecting the front bishop with your king.
#4. proceed as above until the king is on the edge of the board. and now you need to get the king into the corner. to do this:
#5. have your king blocking their king's return to the center, and your bishops stop their king from going to the corner that you don't want their king to go to. no checks are actually required here. just prevent the king from going towards one corner, and he will be forced into the other corner.
#6. once their king is trapped in the corner like this

remember that the second to last move before checkmate has to be a check. otherwise you will stalemate him. (this means you simply move one of your bishops towards the center of the board to force the king out of the very corner square allowing the last two moves to be checks).

hope this helped

I want to know how do you mate with one bishop! If you can do that, it would really be something!

It is easy.

Here is a few steps to get you to master this and the rest you can figure out as it takes experience no matter how good the example is here.

#1 Get the King out the center.

#2 Get the King to half the board.

#3 Get the King to 1/4 of the board.

#4 Once you did #3 make sure your king mirrors the king if he goes near a corner from here all your work can be wasted as he has an escacpe route away from the Bishops.

#5 Force the King to the side/edge or one file/rank from it.

#6 Be patient and do the opposite of #4. As now you want the king moving towards the corner as the king does not allow the king  to move away from the edge. The end will vary as your opponent will be desperate.

This is a good general outline that will stand the test of time.

On Chess.com 1/500 games. On another site i say 1/300. The players here are real heavy on the opening as not to have those types of End Games here.

Well your on Chess.com ...... where you say it never happenend now it will not only happen but several times. I figure i will be hearing from you again in about 2 months on this subject. LMAO

saisree

So you are saying that I need to practice? I have been doing that the last past 1 month. Is it like memorizing the scenario?

Scottrf

No memorisation, just think about which squares your opponent king has and how you can further cut them off.

saisree

thanks so much everyone! And Scottrf, especially youLaughing.

Well look at my comments where i outlined how to do it.  It makes it real simple and easy to remember. I used to have the same problem you had with it when i first started. Then i had a book on it and still struggled a little. After practice it became easy. Then i did not see it for a while and without any rules i had a time learning it again. And struggled when in a game when in came up after not seeing for a while.

I listed a general method that is easy to remember almost forever. It will get you the mate. Have you thinking the correct approach. Your opponent will not be able to make things complicated until you get within mate in about 4-5 moves. With a little practice using it i guarantee you will mate in under 21 easy!

Not sure about it. Look at the games shown here. They did just what my rules show. Watch any game or video and they will hold up. I used them myself. Now it is part of the reason why players try to take away one of the Bishops to avoid this type of End Game against them.

saisree

thanks you guys you are really helpful                  Wink
