How to get to 1000 elo RAPID.

Hello Guys, I have a horrible rapid Rating of 569. I seriously want to skyrocket this and am aiming to get to at least 850, if not 1000 elo RAPID (although actually I just want to get as high as possible). My puzzle rating is currently 830 (though my highest is 857), and my bot Rating is 1200. So, could you guys please give me some tips?

Hi. I’m only about 750, but I had a Quick look at a few of your games. You don’t seem to be analysing every game to see why you lose. Not sure if this is because you don’t have a subscription, but I would recommend it. Rating does start high and drop like a stone on here, you might keep going down for a while, i did. You seem to get into trouble with your queen a lot try to stick to opening principals and leave the queen until later. Think about your opponents next move, if you were them what would you do, then assume they will play the most annoying move. Hope this is helpful.

Just avoid doing mistakes...and play a 15 min game

A good start would be not resigning games like the following, where you (obviously accidentally) played the best move on the board, and you resigned after this.

The followup may be a bit hard to see for beginners though.

Ask yourself

What does my opponents move do

Does it attack anything , does it blunder anything ,can I create a threat

And of course checks, captures, attacks then look for other moves

BigChessplayer665

Oh and one more thing don't resign try to win your games

You can win down a queen until around 2000(you still can it is just super tricky) so don't worry about blundering always try to win

hmm

Guys, a lot of my friends are saying to learn the Sicilian defense, although I would like to consider some other openings as well. Please suggest some (for white and black).

BigChessplayer665

I recommend learning gambits against it I never play the sacilian myself(rarely i play sometimes)

I recommend learning gambits cause fun

Learn fun openings not the unfun ones

BigChessplayer665

You don't need openings till like 2000 plus 1900s have no positional knowledge in openings

You can learn if you think it is fun to learn it tho

1. Just avoid doing blunders and you can easily get to 1200 elo.
2. Learn openings and their theory (especially ruy lopez as white as this dominates the centre)
3. Learn popular defenses as black and their reasons (caro kann or pirc defense) by watching youtube channels
4. Quickly develop kingside and castle to safety
5. Learn important tactics like discovered attack, discovered check, double check, etc and how to win material by these tactics (example: double check prevents your king from blocking the check as two pieces are checking and king has to defend both checks)
6. Learn how to win material by forcing moves
7. Connect your rooks in middlegame so both can support and defend each other
8. Dont trade equal material unless it improves your position or makes your opponent's position worse
9. Always find an open file and put your rook on that file. DONT TRADE YOUR ROOK IF BOTH PLAYERS ROOKS ARE ON OPEN FILE OTHERWISE YOUR OTHER ROOK WILL NOT GET THE CHANCE TO COME TO OPEN FILE
10. Put your rooks on seveth rank (you can only do it if it was controlling open file thats why its important for rook to control open file) to get free unmoved pawns
11. Activate your king and move it from castle in the endgame (very important). Your king would be impossible to get checkmated because in endgames, many major pieces are captured.
12. Learn about opposition and how it restricts opponent's king from coming into your territory (opposition is when two kings face each other. Opponent's king cant advance because your king is controlling the key squares)
13. Most of all, never resign in low elo games because your opponent can do serious blunder anywhere.
PS. I spent like 15-20 minutes writing all these. Do me a favour and upvote it please.

You do you, review games, do as many puzzles as possible (daily puzzle, puzzles, puzzle rush (survival, try to get as high a score as possible) in that order), and practice. Not just online, OTB is a good way to practice and have fun with friends as well. Also, with regards to openings, the Sicilian works, but it's more important to find something that you enjoy, not just do whatever someone tells you to. Especially with the Sicilian, it's very, VERY, hard to remember the theory and get a decent position. I recently switched to e4 e5 with black, and am enjoying it much more. That being said, the Sicilian did get me to 1600 (peak of 1700) so it is perfectly playable. Puzzles are the most important thing though, if you can win with a simple tactic, it's a lot better than memorizing fifteen moves of opening theory, per line, over 50 different lines, for one variation of the opening you're playing, in order to achieve equality, and then your opponent plays something you've never seen before on move 3.

Not to start a war here

But advice is ok I just recommend not learning an opening until 1600+ because People get too caught up in opening theory and don't learn anything else

I am intermediate and learn opening theory. But you are right, dont learn opening theories that has too much theory and involves a lot of sacrifices. You should atleast get the concept of openings so you know what you are doing.

There is too much theory of sicillian defense, which beginners would find it hard to cope with, at beginner's level it is ok to play the symmetrical e5 although it allows white to play many different moves

BigChessplayer665 said that openings are not needed. I agree with him, so do you just play cleverly?

BigChessplayer665

I recommend learning the positional ideas behind the openings not just the openings themselves
