Does she Knit? If so, you could learn and you could both Knit and play Chess together at the same time.( Embroidery can be fun as well). Its time for my tablets, now where did I put them.    Innocent

Erik, I love your comment.

We have to be careful though. If they somehow figured out how to flip it around on us we would all be watching Oprah and going to Enrique Iglesias concerts.

My friend, they have the anatomical upperhand on us. They can make us do almost anything they want us to do. So happy Oprah and Iglesias watching...

There are plenty of things wrong with watching oprah but that is a completely different and off subject topic in any case Thease are some great ideas, if nothing less my girlfriend at least now knows what I am talking about when I talk about a chess position.

Sorry Murshid. Hey, if that's your thing, that's cool.

I'm lucky.  My girlfriend plays and really is a good opponent.  She always seems apprehensive about starting a game but then ends up really enjoying it.  If she ever does start playing with you.  Make sure that she realizes that no, she can't take back her queen (and neither can you). My girlfriend and I play if you touch a piece you have to move it.  Also, make sure not to let symphathy for you opponent guide your moves.

Ok so recently I got my girlfriend to agree to learn how to play chess.  So I was trying to teach her some basic chess tactics and opening moves and I think I overwhelmed her and I made her cry.  Than she told me that she tried to like chess but just can't.  What do I do, is there a way to spark interest in chess or should I just leave it go what should I do I don't want to hurt her feelings by playing chess or talking about it?

Brandon, there is a way to spark interest in chess for your girlfriend. Take her through the member gallery, and let her see all the delicious guys playing on this site. She be pawing over those chess books before you can say 'Checkmate'

Aw go on now, don't be a spoilsport!!! She'll love you for it, or love someone for it!!!

Hey chess is awesome and I just wish we could both share in it's awesomeness.

My partner doesn't want anything to do with chess and I am ok with that.

Don't worry about getting her to play. If she takes an interest you can encourage it, but don't push the issue. Try to internalize the idea that not everyone finds chess as enjoyable as you do. (It's strange for me as well, but I've been married for a little over three years to a woman who refuses to have anything to do with the game and have stopped asking questions.)

I agree that there are many excellent lady chess players out there. But in general women, for some reason, can't stand chess. Many a time she can't tolerate her man spending too much time playing chess either. I know of a friend, whose wife promised to learn to play chess before they were married. Sadly it never happened! ( Oh! they got married alright but all he got was yawns when it came to learning to play chess )

You can play chess more than one way to spark her interest know what I mean Wink

Just let it go un;ess she expresses an interest or surprises you amd takes lessons to surprise you.

That's it Brandon, listen to Ray-Brooks, tie her to the kitchen sink, tell her that's what us women were born to do, wash up, cook and have babies, I guarantee she will find another interest, (I just hope those interest, include you whilst your playing chess). By the way do you know what's she doing whilst your playing? Maybe she learning plumbing!!!!!

ZZBrandon
No it seems like she has an interest but she said she doesnt want to beat me?  So now I am confused.
