Study master games
How to improve chess strategy.

Yes, well annotated master games, I understand. And I'll also look into the book. Thanks everyone! Very helpful.
Agree with the recommendations to read and play through well annotated master games.
An extra way to approach it is to choose the openings you play carefully and limit them, so that they often lead to positions that you are familiar with, and for which you can study the plans. You can find masters who play those openings and look for annotated records of their games.

I recommend studying master games somewhat chronologically. Rubinstein and Capablanca are great to study because their style of play is very simple and clear. They had a knack of finding and flawlessly executing plans that were simple and easy to understand, but devastatingly effective. And they were phenomenal endgame players. After learning classical chess strategies you should get Nimzovitch's books My System and Praxis. The look at more modern masters.
Everyone knows that to improve in tactics one should use the tactics trainer. Is there a similar way to train oneself in strategy?
