Study tactics and strategy (chess comprises these things). Learn openings, middlegame and endgame theory. Learn the proper drawing and winning techniques in endgames. Practice your calculation skills (something I need to work on too), but most of all, enjoy the game of chess. If you don't enjoy it, there's no way you will ever improve. Chess demands attention and if you don't give it the attention it needs, you won't improve.
How to improve my chess before next year .. ?
Playing over master games helps a lot. There's a book I like called Capablanca's Best Chess Endings, by Irving Chernev. He covers the complete games but pays particular attention to the endings. It helped me learn how to formulate plans. Before reading it I was only playing move-to-move looking for mistakes by my opponent.
How many times a week does someone post a topic like this?
Surly Chess.com must have a link to some article or something that addresses this.
If not, here is one:
http://home.comcast.net/~danheisman/Articles/subject.htm
Start reading everything there. You can read 2 or 3 in 30 minutes. Think about what he says and follow the advice he gives in them(All of which matches everything you will see people post here).
Read 4 or more days a week and your game will improve quite quickly.
