Just follow the basic opening principles: develop, castle, connect the rooks, then play moves that either improve your activity or decrease the opponent's activity. While doing that see if your opponent makes a careless mistake that can be refuted with a tactic.
Littlepuppy5, there's an inappropriately named program called "advanced defence" that helps with king safety. It's aimed at novices and club players yet the word "advanced" usually implies that it's aimed at class B or above. For actual advanced defense Aagard has a book and intermediate defense Crouch's How to Defend in Chess is good. It's mostly a collection of Lasker and Petrosian's games, which is nice since finding game collections on them isn't easy.
I do tactical training and my rating on that is 1100 while my live rating is 860. How do I transfer my tactical rating to my live rating.
Thanks in advance.
