How to simply stop all ads without paying!

Everyone knows how free sites are able to stay free. They generate revenue from advertisers. You can ethically choose not to patronize the advertisers.

Intentionally depriving the site of their opportunity to generate revenue by blocking the sites ability to generate that revenue, whilst still choosing to reap the benefit of the site is not an ethical choice.

A life worth living is not about saying "I know I haven't done anything to deserve it, but look what I got away with!" Unfortunately, that is the shameful point of the original post in this string.

I didn't do it intentionally - my adblocker was downloaded to watch illegal movies, not to screw over chess.com.

On the flip side, I do give back by contributing quality posts like this.

Why not contribute with another quality post by giving us the link where you watch illegal movies?

Hey Jaylove - why r u using a pic of 50 cent as your profile? A picture of yourself is probably even more recognizable on chess.com.

JayLoveAllStar

why you using a picture of no smoking sign brotha?  i like fifty cent.

RonaldJosephCote

Cause smoking's not good for ya, and macer's a good guy. With inflation fitty cents is only worth about a dime these days.

NEW_GEE

Smoking is good for your health. It not only makes you high, it also makes your chess rating high.

Um... that's not a no smoking sign. If you search for one of your former banned accounts you'll see the same sign.

You can't steal a free service.  It's free.  Neither I, nor anyone else, agreed to view ads in exchange for playing chess here.  If chess.com wants to find anohter way to make money (they already offer premium services), that's up to them, but nobody here has to agree to cooperate with their method.  If this method fails to generate revenue for them because people are not willingly viewing their ads, it is up to them to find a model that works.  In other words, it's THIER job to generate revenue, not ours to cooperate with an easy way they've found to do it.

Now, if I agreed to views ads to use the site and then blocked them, that would be different.  They would have the right to complain or take action.  As it is, they are offering a free service with no strings attached.  No one should feel guilty for taking advantage of that.  Feel free to watch ads, if you want.  I won't.  And if chess.com says I have to or leave, I'll just leave.  This is far from the best place to play chess on the internet anyway.

Then what are you doing here if you feel that way about the site? Except leaching off those that do support the site? If other places are so much better, then don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out...

Man, I get tired of posters pissing and moaning about the ads. Here's a novel Idea, pay the measly amount of 29 dollars US for a years subscription and they will magically go away. And you get to feel good in the knowledge you're helping to keep Chess.com alive. Otherwise, quit bitching about ads that allow this site to remain in business.

You've got an ad blocker? Well goodie for you. If everyone did the same this site wouldn't last 6 months. Doesn't seem like something to brag about.

shit then there business model succcccckkkkkkkkks shit if they cant make no money they deserve to go busted suckahs

Squiggle55

Anyone with adblock should know full well it's the right thing to do to allow non-invasive ads on sites they use regularly and enjoy for free to support the site, so that they can continue to provide the service that you enjoy. It's not only the right thing to do, but it's also logical and self-serving in the end. What makes people think they are entitled to free entertainment that isn't free to provide? Instead of being thankful that they take nothing out of your wallet in exchange for the countless hours of fun you are provided, you spend your time thinking about how you can start taking money out of their wallet instead.

Oh, look, a new sockpuppet.

I've had an adblocker app running on chrome for a long time, I wasn't necessarily annoyed by them but was disheartened with the reduced space. You can block ads but can not get rid of those spaces "purchase any chess.com package and get rid of ads for free" or something like that.

random6543

I like this web site but i don't like ads. So I pay for a premium membership. It's as simple as that. I'm just sorry that I'm also paying for other people's free rides. The free generation is the mean generation.

This site was initially "free membership", you're not paying for others as you clearly stated you're paying on the basis to rid yourself of ads. I personally found that paying for a package wasn't beneficial to me, the resources available for free was more than adequate especially for those who play recreationally. The fact that this site offers so much for free is something to boast about (it's part of their viral marketing anyway).

If you were buying a membership just to prevent ads, why did you buy the most expensive one? Surly you must be taking advantage of other benefits as well.
