How will Tobey Maguire transfigure into Garry Kasparov?

One day the day will come. Chess fans will be knocking on Hollywood's doors demanding another Chess classic. And one day Hollywood will approve of those on the other side of the peephole and let them in. The stage will be set, Kasparov will be the new protagonist, and the setting will be the 1985 World Championship. But who will play Garry Kasparov?

Tobey Maguire, Tobey Maguire, Tobey, Maguire, and continuously the same name would be heard over and over if one were to survey a room full of chess casting directors. He's the obvious choice. To prepare for the film "Pawn Gambit", Tobey already elevated his game to match the great Bobby Fischer. Therefore, he's the only actor with proper chess training.

However, portraying Garry Kasparov will surely prove to be a greater challenge for Maguire. Kasparov was a much better player than Fischer, he also played D4 as equally as E4. Maguire will need to learn a whole new attacking style. He will also need to learn a whole new set of openings in order to employ D4 convincingly. A Kasparov film is a much more ambitious project, and will require full commitment from Maguire. My skepticism aside, I concede that the only man who could even dare to attempt such a role is Maguire.

I will now open the discussion to the floor. What other difficulties do you think Tobey will experience in attempting to mimic the great Garry Kasparov?

If Tobey Maguire was cast to play Garry Kasparov I would burn the set to the ground.

Garry Sinise. I think he could look like him and he's already used to being called Garry.

That's why you won't be directing the film.

But does he have the same high level chess training as Tobey?

You guys are ridiculous, It's obvious there is only one man who is able to pull the part : Hugh fucking Jackman!

Why would they make another movie?  Wasn't the other a flop?  I can watch it free on Amazon Prime.  I wouldn't be able to watch it free if it was a good movie dude.

The other was a chess classic, and exposed the world to Bobby Fischer! If it wasn't for the film, few would know who he was!

Going on looks alone I would cast Denzel.

Tobey is more trained though and would probably give a more convincing performance.

Interesting, but training Denzel to play at a 2800 level would take at least a few months. Toby is already around that level due to his previous training in preparation for portraying Fischer.

What's Hugh Jackman's elo?

Probably around 2000-ish. I hear he often trains chess, or was that chest... Either way, the movie ought to be a musical not just a cut and dry biography and Hugh is perfect!

If you saw that film Van Helsing and the way Kate Beckinsale's brother transformed into the Werewolf, i think we definately have the makings of how Tobey Maguire can get to play Kasparov in the next chess classic, given the almost prehistoric connection between chess and vampires and werewolves and stuff, the game could surge in popularity.

You're doing your best here Vlad, but they're just not biting!

Who should play Kasparov? Kasparov himself!

If Ronda Rousey has appeared in movies, anybody can.

Kasparov could just play himself.  He's not dead
