Hi! I'm new to chess and have been playing for the past months. So far, I only know a few openings. Please let me know if anyone has any openings you think I should try! 😁

I mostly stick to standard stuff, and it works. Sometimes I do weird stuff if I feel bored, which isn't often. Just stick to your e4 openings as White and you'll be fine.

Your knowledge needs to come into effect when you're Black. You need to be prepared to know how to respond to many different possible moves. I'm probably not someone you should take advice from, seeing as I'm still considered a noob by most experienced players, but this is what I think:

- Against e4, the typical e5 is obviously OK. However, I like to do the Sicilian occasionally, especially the "French" version (2. e6).

- Playing against d4 can be very confusing. I'm partial to playing the Slav against the Queen's Gambit (like the Caro-Kann, except White's first move is d4 instead of e4). The Dutch (1. f4) is almost never played, for reasons that should be plainly obvious, but it can be a really fun one if you're feeling like a madlad.

- c4 is a rare opening move, but e5 is considered the best defense to it.

- If your opponent plays a move that doesn't immediately take the center, feel free to grab it yourself.

- Watch out for opening traps. Memorize them to prevent them — not to play them.

- Be mindful of gambits. Most gambits are risky, as they are objectively unsound if the other player knows the correct response(s) to them; the Vienna Gambit is a good example of this. Knowing the correct answers will help a lot.

Maybe take the chess personality test to see what result you get and at the end, the chess.com quiz recommends openings you might be good with. Here's the video of me taking this quiz (the quiz link is in the video description). I don't have blue hair anymore though. Back to my normal color

It'd be more sensible to try and learn something useful. What's the point of learning new openings when you already have some?

Learn something which will develop you - e.g. King’s gambit. It will develop your tactics skills and very interesting to play.

I keep getting The Technician or The Professor when I take the test. I think at my Elo though (and the OPs) we don't really have playing styles - it's just about surviving ten moves without blundering a queen.

You'll get better with experience and then your playstyle will begin to show a bit more

Playing style - “survival during 10 moves”. Advanced level: “have queen at the end of 10 moves”
