I taught myself at the age of 7. I'm not sure what made me or what or who influenced me to, I guess I was just curious. I knew nothing about tactics, strategies, endgames, openings, etc. I played for about a year and started to lose interest, and eventually stopped playing all together...

I played chess again in 5th grade and was pretty much the beast at it at my school (my rating probably would've been like 200-350 aka terrible). I was in charge of the chess club and played for fun sometimes when there was no outdoor recess. After that year in school, I started to lose interest in it again and again, stopped playing it...

Last year, I was on a cruise and went to a deck where there was a library, computer lab, game room, a bar. Pretty much your relaxation deck. I was very bored since the next stop on the cruise was going to be skipped due to extreme wind conditions.

Anyways, one of the board games were chess and saw 2 people playing it. One was about 10 or 11 years old and the other was like in his 60's or 70's. I watched them play until the older guy won. I decided to go next and try it out since I haven't played it in a while (1 1/2 years). I was bored anyways. The first game was surprisingly a draw. I'm not sure why, but I shook on it. I did surprisingly well. The next 2 games, the man won. He told me 3 tips...

1. Try to have as much control of the center squares in the beginning.

2. Get your bishops and knights into development as early as possible.

3. Castle as early as possible.

He then told me that if I wanted to play more, I should go to this site called chess.com. The next day, I played 2 people from Jordan (this cruise was in America. Amazing, right?). I lost to some dumb mistake in the endgame.

When I went home after the beautiful and unique vacation, I checked out this site. I started playing it, and was doing terrible. I stopped for a couple of months (as you can see in my rating graph). I wasn't sure why, I just didn't find interest in it anymore. I got back into playing a couple months ago and now, I'm actually studying openings and tactics. The community, lessons, and the ability to watch games and videos is what really makes this site unique.

My rating in bullet is around 950 and for blitz, it's around 750. I have never played in a real tournament. To this day, I still enjoy playing chess and reading interesting forums like these.

What are you doing with the variant and mostly incorrect answers? I mean, the correlation between reality and the answers to your question is rather non-existing. So what are you doing with the answers?
