Huge Rating Loss

I recently lost 269 blitz rating points. I'm struggling to win any games. I scored 3 points out of my last 22 games. Partly I feel like I'm playing in a fog, partly it feels like my opponents are playing much better than their rating. Each day, I feel fresher and feel like I'm going to gain my rating back, but I only go lower. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Should I take a break from chess? I know blitz and ratings aren't important, but I also want to fix my thinking/game. Any recommendations?

Time to accept reality: someone’s been doing the thing you’re doing now since they were five, and they’ve always been better than you

That statement humbles me, and I hope it will do the same for you. My only suggestion is, if you really want to improve, study study study chess

I don't see the relevance of this comment. Of course, I know many people are much better than I am at chess. Also, I study chess for a couple of hours every day. I'm not asking how to get better at chess. I've accepted that I'll never be very good. I'm just wondering if people have had similar experiences of losing 269 rating points in a week's time and not being able to get it back.

I'm having the same problem. It depends on the time of day it seems. Sometimes I'll lose like 8 games in a row or take a lot of loses with only a few wins. At other times I can climb up to early 1300. When I look at a lot of the players I lose to I can see that they had peak ratings of at least 1400 and generally 1500+. It's super annoying because they blatantly play significantly better than I can, it's not even close sometimes. I'll go from 1320ish down to 1230ish just with a bunch of loses and find it very difficult to win.

It's ok when you loss how much elo. The most imprtant thing you got to play blitz.

I do have some recommendations, which are to play longer games and to learn all the stuff everyone should know, I’d recommend starting at like 30-60 min rapid game to get your chess intuition better, such as what to do and mating patterns, then lower the time slowly, this will help a lot, I was In a similar boat and this helped me a lot

I just looked at their rating, I think my advice is out dated for them

Same experience there.
My blitz rating must be around 1100-1200 and it went down to about 800 last summer.
My problem is that i sometimes forget that blitz is in fact a race, so the majority of my losses are due to time.

NOT playing late in the evening helped.
NOT playing another game after 3 or 4 consecutive losses helped too.
In my case, being too aggressive, trading like crazy is the sign that I am not in the right mood. When I detect I play that way I force myself to stop.

No, your advice is good. I will take it. I'm going to switch to playing longer time controls, and stay away from blitz for a while.

I never thought about the time of the day. Thanks!

Blitz rating on a online website doesnt really matter, does it?

But anyway, yeah thats happening to me in rapid. Not the same IK cos u take it seroously and I dont rlly.. but the piece of advice I would give is to play on l*chess or play different time control where you dont care about ur rating, keep doinf that until u get back to ur normal level of play, and then return to blitz on chess.com

Study endgames, endgames only, for a month. Then come back to blitz and test where you're

You're not the only one that this happens to so don't stress too much about it. I've also gone on losing streaks and yea it can be demoralizing but just know that as you get better at chess you're never just going to have a perfect upwards trajectory, there's going to be ups and downs.

One thing that helped me which other people have already mentioned was to stop playing if I am losing too many games in a row. You don't want to play when you're tilted plus look at the bright side your rapid rating is still pretty good

This sort of thing has happened to me twice in the past. I lost about 150 blitz points really quickly. Both times I picked it back up slowly over the next month. Could be different for everyone but that’s how it works for me.
