I am a beginner to chess.

V. good advice from #2 & #3.
Learn your chess lessons: https://www.chess.com/lessons &
Tactics: https://www.chess.com/tactics

1. Start doing tactics- whenever you solve a puzzle ,try to get the idea behind it.Getting the idea about 'what's going on' will help you a lot.
2.Start doing the lessons- Lessons will teach you various ideas and important things about the game.
3.Pay games with slower time control- Start with daily turn wise games. These games will give you enough time to analyse the position .Don't play blitz and bullet.
4. Play with a player having higher rating-As the higher rated player will have more experience and knowledge about the game , you will learn new things while playing with him/her.Always ask the player to comment on the game.
5.analyse your lost games- always do it after you loose a game and try to figure out what went wrong and in which area of the game you should work hard.
6.Don't bother about various openings-At our level openings hasn't any impact on our games because even if we get a perfect opening we'll blunder in the middlegame and lose the game.IT is however advised to learn a basic opening of your interest so that you can have a playable position but don't go deep in that.
7.Have patience - it's a long journey. you will loose various times even if you didn't do anything wrong.Don't loose hope as it happens to everyone.
Like you i'm also a beginner. A couple of months ago i was stuck at 900 elo in daily games . Now i have improved it to 1100 and i'm still trying to improve.I know that in no time you will improve and gain confidence

Long time control games against better opponents.
Try not to blunder , try to exploit oponent's blunders , always have a plan , even if it is a very simple one(playing random moves that you don't know why you play doesn't help you)
Analyse your defeats , find your mistakes and try to fix them.
That's step 1.
Second step is the basic checkmates.
Queen and King vs King,2 rooks and king vs king and rook and king vs king must be learned perfectly.
Learn them ,and practice them many times, until you are certain that you can do them even with your eyes closed.
All the rest come later.

1. LESSONS: Read all the lessons on this app/website first. They are available at https://www.chess.com/lessons. Start with https://www.chess.com/lessons/courses/beginner 2. TACTICS: Start solving tactics and puzzles on this app and other websites. These tactics include basic checkmate patterns, mate in 1, mate in 2, mate in 3+ as well as techniques such as pin, fork, skewer, double attack, discovered attack, sacrifice and others 3. As mentioned in the earlier reply, play longer formats games such as daily chess in the beginning. Understand the game first and then go for speed (bullet or blitz). 4. Analyse your games and the mistakes and blunders you make. Make sure you don't repeat those again. 5. Watch youtube videos for beginners. There are many good channels on youtube for beginners. Best luck.
