Maybe your opponent didn't see the mate or maybe even though he was going to lose he still wanted to learn something from the position. It's happened to me before when someone told me to resign cuz ill be mated in 3 . I didn't see it but I told him I'd like to play it out cuz that's how I learn

It was back rank mate I just needed to promote my pawn to queen he had one move with his king. If didn't see the mate he was quite literally blind.

I believe that there's a rule against coercing your opponent to resign, at least in OTB. Therefore, you should not tell your opponent when he should resign, it's his choice.

If you have agreed to play a standard game with 15+ minutes for both sides, you must always be prepared for the worst (i.e. your opponent decides to use all of his time). It's your fault that you didn't evaluate your situation (i.e. that you might have to leave the computer if the nature calls etc).

The troll army approaches. I know not what to do.

I think when 3 people who have no previous indication of being a troll all point out the same principle it stops becoming "an army of trolls" :). This question has been raised time and time again "My opponent won't resign, they keep offering draws, etc".

You're winning, why whine about it? I'd gladly be given a winning position if it meant sitting a little while to wait for the win. If I to answer "nature's call" I would probably go ahead and log off.

Try a bit harder next time. Calling everyone else trolls is the oldest trick in the troll book.

Okay I apologize for the troll comments my bladder has been relieved and my anger subsidied. I do hope you accept my apology.

I would go to the toilet and tell the librarian to please not turn of computer... Otherwise i would premove then run to the toilet like a maniac in fronts of everybody embarrassing myself not eve n was my hands the a sigh of relief as u see the librarian hasn't logged of your computer and u premixed correctly... :)

skinnypurpleducks

JadedPawn

Maybe your opponent has gone to the toilet!;)

Why not just buy your own computer and then u can stay home and play chess. Then if u need to piss off u don't have to get pissed off, just grab a bottle and do ur thing. Also libraries only give u an hour, u can play all day on your own machine. BTW this computer I am now using is a Dell P4 desktop, works great and cost me less than $100. Its amazing what u can get if u look around on the internet, try Amazon or ebay for great bargains.

JadedPawn

Funny thing! If he see you writing this. He will never move! lol

These ********** chess players who just sit there when it's one move from mate and I have to use the restroom and at a library so can't leave computer without logging off. AHHAHIOWHOIHWOIHAEFKH I've been waiting thirteen minutes he still hasn't moved or gone away and my bladder is going to burst!!!

I know. I've had players who have 10-20 minutes left and just make me sit there and wait until they lose on time Yell. Why not just resign if they know they're doomed?

Sun777

These forums always work the same. One person starts it off cuz there angry at chess.com or someone else. Then, some other guy comes and smart-allic's the first guy, telling him it's his fault (even if it isn't), and gets him all mad. Then the insults start flying. LOL Laughing

johnyoudell

The problem you have is not your opponent, it is the situation you are in not being able to leave the computer. Could you play long time limit games? OK some opponents will make you wait (even longer) for your mate - but you will be able to turn the computer off whenever you like for whatever reason. I mean, who can tell when the urge to study something other than a chess position might not come upon you?

My dear Lord Harnois. Would it not be in your best interest to have your man servant take a pee for you? ;)

I thought of this and tried it. For some reason it was to no success. I still can't figure out why.

LordHarnois

And I've decided all the people defending my opponent are themselves people who do the same awful thing, that is sit there for 15mins when mate in one is inevitable.

TheGreatOogieBoogie

If it makes you feel any better on another site my opponent resigned after dropping a piece.  The important thing to remember here is no one recently waited for me to checkmate them.
