I love Axis &Allies! Also great are Shogun and Diplomacy. RPG's like Call of Cthulhu and D&D are great, too. There is a fantastic board game called Arkham Horror you should check out. Now that chess is out of the way, there is enough quality gaming for the rest of your life. You're welcome.
I am quitting chess.

I just started chess. Im 40 and dont care what my rating is. I just want to learn and play
That's the spirit ... happy learning

Dont know if its been pointed out, but the OP, predictably, is still playing chess.
Thats the spirit ... i must have encouraged him

oh yes, the Chris guy .... maple leaf ... he was beyond help.
I think he blocked me
Someone gotta tell him that i hold the record on number of ppl blocked

Oh, to have so many years ahead of one, so much time in which to explore so many possible realms, so much to learn about oneself ... keep it up, quak170, and good luck!

Oh, no, please, DrS! -- don't try to convert the youngster to your obviously bitter, cynical view of women. Please, just for now, let him keep his dreams ... ...

His dreams? It sounds a bit like your dreams. The boy says he wants to quit chess and a couple of pages later all men have become cynical. Real men love women and spend fortunes on them. And women that play chess are sexy as hell..my god, that are my dreams..please let me keep them.

Money does NOT = PASSION
PASSION = MONEY
But, seriously, do it for the love of the game, don't do it thinking your going to beat Magnus Carlsen or make a million dollars. Be optimistic when playing and perform your best, but don't be pessimistic about where CHESS will take you. Because where you go in life depends on a whole multitude of things, so just find the passion that you can use as a steady occupation.
Hey, I don't mind the story. It was well written compared to most other threads on this forum, and it was from the heart. I think he made some good points and personal realizations. Sometimes you just need to tell other people what you're thinking or feeling. That's fine.
Good luck to ya, kid. Make whatever decision is best for you... just remember, you can enjoy chess at any rating and can always play it on the side. That's what I do. I have several hobbies and chess is only one of them.
