I am the worst 2000 rated player of all time

Attention chess.com community it’s official: I have joined the ranks of the elite 2000 blitz rating group.

I started playing chess a couple years ago, and when I first started out I was amazed at the talent of the 2000 rated players. It took me 16,000 games but i made it, and now that I am one I’m not so impressed with myself.

Other than my extensive knowledge on the Alapin, of which I am chess.com’s ranking expert,  I know almost zero opening theory. For example do you know what the most common move by black is against the queen’s gambit? I don’t,  but I’m pretty sure it’s not 2. e5 which is what I always play.

Was it my fantastic endgame play that led me to the 2000 barrier? Nope. Do you know how to draw the Philidor position because I don’t. I don’t even know what the Philidor position looks like. Do you know how to checkmate with a knight and bishop or bishop and bishop against a bare king? I don’t.

I frequently drop pieces, pawns, and have even been known to pop the occasional queen. I play almost exclusively 3 minute no increment blitz and even at such a short time control I have almost zero attention span, and have been known to sacrifice pieces solely because the position looks boring and I want some imbalances. Sometimes I don’t know what to do in a position so I just shuffle pieces back and forth quickly and wait for my opponent to execute his plan.

I can’t currently post any games becuase I only have access to my phone which I can’t figure out how to post games on, but when I can I’ll post some games to demonstrate my point.

I frequently lose to players rated lower than me, and I have no qualms with flagging my opponents in dead drawn or lost positions. I never do any chess study or tactics, nor do I make any attempt to learn from my mistakes as I have I never analyzed any of my games other than in my breakthrough thread “A bust to the Sicilian Defense”.

Now listen carefully because this is the most important part of my post. In about two minutes I’m sure this thread would be swarmed with comments like “online blitz ratings are worthless, your play is the level of an 1100 OTB”. If that’s what you were planning on contributing to this thread I would just like to say in advance that I don’t care what you think about online ratings. You are however very welcome to post specific instructive criticisms of my play, or of other 2000 level blitz players.

I have completed my goal and I have no further chess ambitions, but I would like to close by saying that I have a newfound respect for FMs and IMs. My play is far closer to a beginner than to theirs.

Good luck everyone with your chess endeavors.

Additionally I want to make it clear that I don’t mean to insult 2000 rated blitz players in general. You are an impressive bunch.

Your rating was 1682 at the beginning of this month. You're telling me that after 16,000+ games you suddenly gain more than 300 points in less than 3 weeks? I find that hard to believe...

superchessmachine

Congratulations! Who am I to give you tips?...

SmyslovFan

Wow. I played you a month ago, and you were rated 15xx in blitz. Now, all of a sudden, you've gained~500 rating points. That's impressive.

Tactic-Guy

16,000+ games in less than 3 weeks?

No 16000 games in a little over 2 years.

I got to 2200 recently and I felt that was enough of that. I was happy with my rating, always more important to study chess than to play tons of blitz online.

but considering where you started 2000 is a good result and you should be somewhat proud of yourself, even if it's not especially important. Play some OTB tournaments!

I prefer playing chess to studying it. I hate studying chess, but seeing as you are trying to improve that is probably the best way I’m sure.

I just liked chess so I played a bunch and my improvement was the gradual result of a lot of games

staples13

Out of curiosity dpnorman would you say it took you more time to get from beginner to 2000 or was it longer from 2000 to 2200?

blueemu

Just wait until your rating approaches 2300. You won't believe how badly your play deteriorates.

jambyvedar

play  and check if you can maintain it.

Farm_Hand

Congrats on 2000.

However, your rating graph has odd spikes. Looking at your history I found a lot of sandbagging. So just in general it's hard to know how much of what you're saying is accurate, and how good you actually were a few months ago.

You are the worst 2000 rated player of all time. Alert, alert! Everybody, be afraid!!!

And by the way, you are the worst 2002 rated player who has since, as of today, won 8522 blitz games and lost 7084.

Someone should challenge him for the title of worst.

First person to lose 10 games wins.

Hehe, you go first.

If you lose him, you are the worst 2000.

I might challenge him later. happy.png

Me and myratingis15xx played something like 20 games a year or two ago.

You guys say he's been banned for cheating, but he was playing at a level >2000 when we played (and he wasn't cheating because I edge him out with a score of something like +2).

(plus some 2200 person watched us, and said it was a clean match i.e. no cheating)

As for the OP, my secret "winning" strategy to be the worst is to resign on move 1!

(Don't tell him, it's my secret)

If you wanted to win though, I'm guessing just challenge him to 3/2 or 5/1 and watch his rating drop 500 points wink.png

If he's as bad as he says he is, then he's super specialized in 3 minute chess. Any other blitz time control and his head would probably melt tongue.png

I disagreed there is super specialized strategy between 3/0 blitz vs 5/1 blitz.

My strategy of playing is simple. For 1 min bullet, I use

1. Intuitive move/ candidate move ( immediate plan move that I see in my mind, usually within 0.5 -1 sec)

2. Blunder check or policy move( tactics). Only when I feel/ see if there is possible tactics. ( average use  2-5 secs, may be 10 secs in critical condition).

If I have less time, I play less tactics/no tactics. ( I just put pieces into safe squares).

More time= More tactics.

AFAIK, people with

1. Bad candidate move but sound policy move will perform better in longer time control.

2. Sound candidate move but bad policy move will perform better in shorter time control( bullet).
