You've been here four months. If you haven't played 400 blitz games, it is your fault. I've played 400 since the summer solstice.

Well then, you shouldn't be playing blitz at all. It will ruin you. Play slow games. Develop your skill.

While playing blitz isn’t necessarily ideal- you will gain the most out of playing slower games, like Ziryab says- it definitely won’t “ruin you” as long as you control yourself and use it in a way that isn’t detrimental to your play.

Those are sensible, or can be.

It will be more usefull for you to focus on your chess in general. Don't focus too much on your blitz skills. I'd suggest you to play better 15+10, 30 minutes or even longer if possible. 1hour games or 45+45. If you want to improve try to learn from every your game. After each game, find your mistakes. Try to figure out why you made such mistakes and how to avoid it in future.

Its even better to improve your thinking system. But its hard to explain on forum. May be you can try to learn and improve your thinking system by watching how stronger players play longer games. I can suggest you youtube videos by John Bartholomew and Simon Williams.

Playing 45 45 online means that you need a high tolerance for players who cheat and/or abandon games. I won't do it. It's a good time control for OTB, though.

If you have paranoya related with cheaters then even better not to play chess at all. You can definitely meet cheaters from time to time. But its not the reason to avoid longer time controls. As practice showes you can face cheater even OTB. Also you can face cheater in any time control even in 1+0... But longer time controls much more usefull for you chess!

I play enough 10 0 to understand that 20% of players abandon games and close to 5% cheat. It's not paranoia. it's the reality of longer time controls. Playing against cheaters, however, still sharpens your chess.

Yes. It's the abandoned games that are a problem. Some players might leave for a long break and then come back and make a move.

However, if you join up with Dan Heisman's group to play 45 45, you probably have a better chance of getting fair players who finish games.

I'd say you'll find the frequency of cheaters in bullet is less than 1 in 100.

OTB it's even more rare.

But in rapid games on chess.com (or any place online) you'll probably play a cheater a few games a week (if you're an active player). It's completely incomparable.

The frequency of cheaters in blitz is also less than 1%, but I run into them most weeks.

I have not played any cheaters  on here.  How do I know?  After the game, I found that we both made the same amount of errors.  A cheater would have played the forcing moves that my opponent missed.  I play people on here.  They seem to play around their rating.

I was preparing for a tournament recently so I was playing more rapid. My blitz has gone down but my rapid and classical have never been better.

I've got a good tip. Play 400 blitz games

Ditch the blitz.  Learn slow chess first.
