Did you read his autobiography? "Mind Master: Winning Lessons from a Champion's Life".

He talks about which books he read when he was young.

It listed two well-known chess books he read, "including one I devoured from cover to cover and swore by with complete and unshakable faith "

Please tell the name of the books.

I was hoping you would look up his autobiography. I found the info in the free except.

If you are going to learn, you can't expect everything to be put on a plate.

He mentions Horowitz - Chess Openings: Theory and Practice, and Capablanca - Chess Fundamentals and 1,000 Miniature Openings.

I'm not sure what you were supposed to learn from the guru who posted above who wanted to "teach you" to go looking at Amazon, but I thought in the spirit of an actual discussion, I'd provide you some information instead of pretending to be Plato.

I hoped that he would look for and read the story of Anand.

His post originally was titled "I didn't find the answer on the internet".  I  took it as a challenge.

I spent at least an hour searching for it and found a number of interesting interviews with Anand where it hinted at his early collection of books won from a TV station but did not name them.   It seems to be a story repeated in a number of Indian reading textbooks.

I found the story repeated a number of times online.

I finally decided to look at th autobiography.

When I found the answer, it was in the middle of an inspiring story. Rather than just copy the names of the books down, I thought that if I could inspire get him to look for the story, with that little quote from the book, it might be a useful lesson to him.

All in all, I found it a very educational experience.  I had hoped he would too.

Thanks for interfering.

/ And I don't think is was being platonic.

/ More socratic, actually.
