there is a joke , during 1600s when chess was being invented the people making were corporate employees they took whole time in making a knight made it with high detail (hair , eyes ,shape) but then they realized deadline is near so made other pieces in hurry

wonder what the maker of chess was thinking when he made knights. "yea all the other peices have specific directions but you know what, I'ma make a horse that's called a knight and not give it a pathway that can be blocked" they are by far the best peice for forking
