I feel that I deserve a higher rating

Sometimes I feel that my rating is a bit low considering that I put a lot of effort into getting a higher rating. Its not my "fault" that I don't get the results I need despite me putting the effort in. I know those with "higher" ratings will disagree but I feel that I would be more motivated if my rating was 2000 (Maybe those at 2000 could go to 3000 for example). I just think people with 500 or 800, they try real hard but aren't rewarded enough for their efforts.

My point is it would be nice if effort = rating rather than luck/success = rating. I would like to point out this is a chess site and not an offical rating system, so why not increase ratings a bit? If I could be 2000 I'd be happy with that, title or no.

I'd be interested if anyone feels the same way.

What is your current rating?

Mainline_Novelty

I don't doubt that you put effort in, just a lot less than higher rated players do...

falcogrine

If you inflated your rating, you would have to likewise inflate the ratings of those currently higher than you. There would be no net rating gain, as the normal rating would have changed. Sorry, but you're out of luck there.

Chess.com uses the glicko system which is a legitimate means of rating players. Some argue that it could be implemented better but I wouldn't know anything about that.

Anyway I find that players get stuck at under 1000 because they don't develop their pieces well and hang pieces at times. They are still getting used to viewing the board and micro-management.

I couldn't tell you why players stall under 2000. I just don't pay that much attention anymore...

Your chess.com handle says everything that I need to hear.  You are indeed a perfect idiot.

You are indeed a perfect rude-person.

I agree. Even thought your user name is perfect_idiot it does not mean people should call you it. That was very mean Jason.

Reward effort over success?  That seems backwards to me, just my opinion.

I agree with this - and this is coming from someone who is terrible at chess...

It is exactly like this. There's no luck factor here. Don't really get what you're complaining about.

XD the username says it all!

Yeah I dont agree with you. If you are putting a lot of effort and not succeeding, then you are either doing it wrong or you need to put more effort. Besides, you will succeed the more effort you put in, if you put a lot of effort, then you will win. I am stuck under 1000 but I dont complain about it, I just try to get better.

RangerLeong

You shouldn't worry about your rating, they're just imaginary points. Do it for the fun of the game :-)

If all the ratings were to be inflated so that 2000 was the new "average", then what would stop people from saying:

"Sometimes I feel that my rating is a bit low considering that I put a lot of effort into getting a higher rating. blueemu your a good smart troll! :)

It's a thankless task, but someone has to do it.

pinggo

sorry to disappoint you but trying silly 4-move scholar's mate checkmate every game is not going to improve your game..i bet that you keep doing the same idiotic thing over and over again and you will never reach 2000, because its not really something that resembles putting an effort to get better. i wonder if you are just an idiot or a troll.

rlass

Dude, seriously? Maybe put more effort in to improving your chess and not be so focused on increasing your rating. Your rating will improve as your skill does. Also, why group luck and success together? I played club and tournament backgammon for years, that's a game where luck and success go together (a lot of times, anyways). Winning chess has very little to do with luck.

Just another troll thread to feed....
