Anyway, I hope I’m not the only one 😭😭
I HATE 10/0

Rapid is the best in terms of improvement and actual chess. Its not too long or not that fast either. Its the perfect time control.Even though Im a bullet and blitz player primarily,I still switch it up to rapid and its still my favourite

10|0 games help you to make the best possible moves because there's not so much time pressure at all

As someone who plays a lot of 10+0 one thing that helps me is to play it way faster, almost like blitz but without having to worry about flagging. Try to stay ahead of your opponent on the clock and not get low on time at all if you're paranoid.

10/2 is very unusual. Just select the custom challenge option and create whatever time control you want to play. What's the deal

Because it won’t pair you with anyone if it’s not a common time control. Especially not at ~2000+ level where there are already obviously less players

You’re playing good chess. But the time format is rewarding something else: fast clicking, pre-moving, shallow instincts.

Not at all. In fact, over the board, it's quite common. It's just not a standard time control here. If they had included it among their standard options, you would be calling it quite common.
OP, Lichess has 10/5, if that's any better for you. I don't know how many people play it, but it's one of the standard options.
(Me, I'm shallow, and I enjoy racing my way through an endgame, so I don't object to 10/0 being standard -- but I do appreciate the objection.)

There's no automatic pairing, someone has to accept your challenge manually. That's why it takes longer, so you have to be little bit patient. I am 1900 rapid and I play 10/0 unrated and in my opinion there's quite a lot of people around 2k. And if you go unrated, sometimes even people up to 2500 accept the challenge

As Hikaru said about online chess - no increment online is good because if you manage your time poorly, you are punished for it. As someone else pointed out, Lichess has 10+5 as an alternative (the wait time is a bit longer than 10|0 here). I have the same time issues as you, but trying to fix your issue of being slow is probably better if you're trying to improve anyway. It's a curable issue, unlike switching an entire player base over to another time control

The OP is shouting into the void on this "issue". I don't think I have ever played a game with an increment on this site, it's not an issue I care about and my guess is the vast majority don't care either.
Okay. I know 15/10 exists. It sucks, it is too long to play more than one or two games in your day, especially if you have work or school commitments (which is presumably 90% of the platform). It also is too easy for people attempting to violate the FairPlay measures to have the time to do so, in my view.
I know 10/5 exists on this platform, but barely anyone plays it and that number is even lower when your rating is inching towards 2000.
And I know time is a valid win condition, and playing poor moves due to low time is part of chess. But I play 3/2 blitz for a reason; every move I at least have a chance to play my first instinct, even if it’s poor.
With 10/0, I don’t have that. I am rubbish at premoving, unfortunately, mostly due to an aversion to bullet chess (which I’ve always found uninteresting as it just encourages poor play).
But how hard would it be to have 10/2 be the default time control on this site? It’s a much more similar experience to playing OTB games/tourneys which almost always have increment to allow for piece movement, and it might allow me to avoid situations like the following two games. Which were played IN A ROW.
This game is definitely not my most accurate, but up until I dipped below 1minute (move 29), I had a very encouraging position. Sure, I’d squandered my advantage in the middlegame briefly - it happens - but my position was excellent. But goodness me how it went to s**t.
This game was arguably even more frustrating. I’m new to the Sicilian (I’ve played French and Caro-Kann the entire time I’ve played chess) but have been recently attempting to learn it. The opening was a reasonable success, but I still don’t fully understand the associated middlegame plans, so I got a poor position. Then I saved the game. Better yet, I was now completely winning. Until, guess what, I lost on time.
Anyway. Rant over. These things happen, they’re part of chess, but I do genuinely think this could be avoided if we had a commonly played 10/2 option. Today was a heartbreaking chess day as I’m so close to finally reaching the coveted 2000 (been as high as 1989 lately) but my time management today means it’s still a way off for now.
