another tip , useful in timed games , dont spend your time thinking "they are using an inferior opening against ME to belittle ME  , use that time to think about the board

I think you misunderstand a bit. I'm not mad that they dare insult me or something, I just think anyone who cares enough to even do that is either petty or immature.

That's what you think not your opponents. Even if these players are doing this on purpose who cares?

You can look at it as a challenge. How to gain an advantage against weak openings? This will benefit you a lot. There is always a good way to deal with things in chess and life.

You're right, even if certain players are selfish and unfriendly, its not beneficial to focus on that. After all, ultimately it has no real impact.

@ImNotBadUrBadNowiCri, if your post is sincere, I think you need professional help, and maybe to stop playing chess on the internet until you reach a space of more positive psychological and emotional adjustment.  I cringed as your firehose torrent of raw, unbridled, unmanly and unhinged emotion struck my unsuspecting eyeballs and consciousness.  Jesus H. Christ on a Harley-Davidson, get a grip.  There's no cause to hate the opponents on chess.com; they're just names with an associated flag, a picture sometimes, and a sequence of moves after that and the worst thing they can do to you is beat you, something you need to learn how to take in stride if you're gonna play chess with internet strangers, something that happens to me about 60% of the time; I win about 40% of the time and draw the rest, and my only takeaway after I lose is "Boo-hoo, I just lost a game because I did [THIS STUPID THING] and I need to avoid this result in the future by not making [THAT BAD MOVE] and a minute later after a sip of beer and a small cloud of smoke from my cigarillo, all is forgotten except hopefully the subconsciously imprinted lesson that if I go [THERE IN THAT POSITION] my position will look like poo in another 3-4 moves and I will have to resign.  That's called maturity, detachment, and if I were making any money off this, professionalism, and as we get older we all move toward this state at a greater or lesser velocity, but you're not moving toward it fast enough, may such gods as exist help you in your plight.

100% agree oregon , it brings to mind a true great of chess Michael Botvinnik , wounded by being mauled by Tal , he spent his time analysing in depth his games v Tal and in the return match reclaimed from a chess God the world championship

in the end those types of people are irrelevant, ignore them and move on man.

Thank you @ANOK1.  I suspect that the Tal-Botvinnik thing was orchestrated by the Soviet state, which regarded chess as a manifestation of its superiority and consequently took a great interest in it, and in whom its standard-bearer would be.  The state wanted someone predictable and controllable, who would say and do the right things to promote the glory of Bolshevik-style communism, and Tal was unpredictable, a loose cannon (who retired to America IIRC) and so not fit to be the face on a 100 ruble bill.  The Soviets notably influenced other world championship matches (Karpov-Korchnoi) for the same reason, so we can look at the tracks ourselves and guess what kind of animal passed by.

I've never been told by somebody that my emotions hit them in the eyeballs like a fire-hose. (nice alliteration btw)

you missed out the bit where Botvinnik allowed the analysis of his games to all in the russian chess federation , not only the politburo , as you can expect its a brave person who will allow criticism from millions , what he gained from that was a world title , as well its worth bearing in mind the health of Tal in the return match ,

To me every chess game is a life or death fight. I will either end up as a mangled corpse or my opponent will. Occasionally nobody will win but usually somebody ends up on their knees getting mercilessly executed by their opponent. To end up in those situations is inevitable but Never enjoyable. But aside from this perspective on the game there are deeper reasons I sometimes times feel hate towards my opponents

To begin with, the cut throat mentality of the people who play online chess blows my mind. With no other incentive than a few imaginary points people reveal the shallowest aspects of their personalities.

How many more troll notes will I have to delete from my profile? How many more people are going to run down their clock in a lost position? How many more higher rated people will mockingly play inferior openings in order to belittle me, or insult my skill after a game? We've all experienced the way many people act here.

I am a sore loser when it comes to chess. Mostly I hate losing to those petty characters who think so highly of themselves and so low of others for something as superficial as a game of chess. The internet makes it easy for people to show their true colors.

What bothers me more than anything is that out in the real world those same types of people act in the same petty ways, but over things that Actually matter. For that reason, when a player does something completely unkind just for a few rating points I can't imagine what they would say or do to a person IRL for a reward with concrete worth. Sure, who cares that an opponent called me bad or wrote mean things on my profile, but it's difficult not to feel anger and repulsion towards those who could honestly care less about other people. And losing to that person is the worst.

It's not a life-or-death fight. It's a game. No one is impressed with your rating or whether you lose a game or not. You need to get things in focus and start enjoying life.

I can understand you. I sometimes felt the same way as you have. But choice of openings is fundament right. Everyone has their own calculations for the middle game..

You do understand that youre trying to equate online chess with REAL life and death struggles?  You should write rap songs.  You can rap about growing up on the rough streets of <insert street/city/state here> and fighting each day for your online chess life.  Maybe Eminem can play you in the movie?

I hate my opponent when they blunder badly on end games...well, not really. Hahaha. I have lost on a 5 move trick play by someone rated way below me...life goes.. geez!

DrSpudnik

Without your opponent you couldn't play chess. You'd just be left playing with yourself.
