It depends on the rating of your opponent, if you want you can play with higher rated player to win a lot of points.
Totally agree with furtiveking.,i am rated 1350 and prefer to play 1500+ players were i get 10+ points for a win and maybe 3pts for a draw. Downside is i win probably 1 out of 4 games so my rating is not changing much. Upside is i am learning alot more against the higher rated players and my game on the whole is improving vastly..!
I can normally thrash anyone under 1200.,get an easy 3pts.,but learn nothing.! You need to look at the bigger picture my friend.,good luck
If you played players who had a higher rating than you, you would see the opposite effect. ;)
If you played players who had a higher rating than you [and beat them] you would see the opposite effect!

You 're a Tactician.
Well you're expected to score EA given rating A and rating B.
And SA is what you actually do (win=1, draw=0.5 loss=0). Then your new rating (prime) is updated as follows. K is just some constant (around 32).
That's what you hate, not this site

But, doesn't this forumla suggest that when Rb = Ra, Ea = Eb = 1? That would mean that when you play someone with the same rating as you, you both are expected to win.

Anything to the power of zero is 1. So the expected score when ratings are equal is 1/2, which is intuitive.
