Rommel resigned at the end when he shot himself.

When Hitler told him either he gets killed by firing squad and his family has to pay reparations or kill himself. I would not call that resigned, maybe a “sacrifice”.

No, not resigning would have been to go after his new enemy, Hitler.

I understand that it can be disrespectful in higher levels of chess and such, but seriously, in my low level of chess, there isn't a need to. Do you think Rommel "resigned" when he was outnumbered? Do you think the Australians "resigned" when they "might of" lost? Do you think the British "resigned" when things didn't look so good? No. And I don't understand resignation at my level. I have done it myself, but I vow to always fight on and NEVER resign.

While i do agree that resigning at your level isn't advisable.  But it is someones right.  Now as for comparing a game of online chess to Rommel?  Their is no comparison.

This is chess.com. We do not deal in facts.  Please respect our ways.

A mission impossible is a resignation

If you wish to play chess you need to not be upset when people resign.

Are you new?

JimTaylor

Not sure if this was posted earlier in the thread BUT some of you need to pay attention in school or go back and re-learn history "Rommel used cyanide he did NOT shoot himself"

And why is resignation in chess? It just says you out witted your opponent and they are bowing out?

ChessieSystem101

I don't know if "hate" is the right word. Maybe I am just.... disappointed.

P.S. BlackBaron007- Very true, thanks.

What you wrote is absolute nonsense. No one is obligated to play a game with you till the end or agree to a rematch. Also screw your scumbag Rommel.
JimTaylor

Drawgood, Rommel was a highly respected German Officer non Nazi, he was respected by our General staff so you saying that just showed how intelligent you are.

That’s kind of like saying “yeah, I know my grandpa was the executioner at auschwitz, but it was a tough economy and he needed a job. My grandpa didn’t like hitler, he was just very respected in the murder industry.”

JimTaylor

LOL No it's not, you're showing your intelligence too. I suppose the two of you think Stalin was a great man because his army defeated Germany and his men only fought because they needed jobs. Brainiacs

Unfollowing this thread I can't handle ignorant people that only listen to CNN and MSNBC for their history and present day facts.

Im a dog groomer and try to a few games between dogs if i get the chance, but if the next dog shows up while im in a winning position, i resign with no hesitation. i guess i never realized that resigning upset so many people on this site

"I hate when people resign" ?

I love it! That's the only way I can win most times!

ChessieSystem101

LOL

Drawgood
Rommel literally was a nazi. People who keep praising him like the romantic idea that he was some kind of benevolent “good nazi”. It’s also something many neo nazis do.

I'm sorry, but when I have the choice of giving up an online chess game or playing with my wife, the choice is obvious. ^^
