I invented an opening, how do I get it named after me?

I actually thought this meant to be holiday joke. Like lol.

Not as epic as the onsite invinted Daeth trap opining (sic) which has been lost to generations of chess players owing to a ban.   The earliest reference can be found here

Go back in time about 100 years, and play it for 10 years in all the top tournaments, occasionally beating the best players. Lets see, 100 years, so you'd be playing people like Capablanca and Alekhine.

we will start a new list of "alternatively named openings: for those who absolutely refuse to study existing openings; bullet approved"

1. NonSequitor1

2. TheBasic (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4)

3. King LaPaz: Ironically named variation (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5)

How did the Lemming Defence and Halloween Gambit get their names?

It was named after two chess masters from the 1300s, Lemmingnus Gambito and Halloweenibus Gambitez.

Email wenameopenings@23.12.34.123 your opening and you should see it in the chess.com explorer.

Perhaps your best bet would be to play all of the "book" moves for a particular opening and then look at the next move beyond all of the standard book moves. If that "post book" move led to an advantage then who knows?

The naming of an opening after a person is a very complicated process- Firstly, the opening should not lose outright, secondly it must not have been named yet and lastly you better make sure the person after which the opening will be named has a cool and pronounceable name.

PS - Why do we not have Komodo variation of the Sicilian? Chess engines should receive such honors too. We would not want them to go on strike, do we?

The first part is not true ever heard of the Sodium Attack? King's Pawn Opening: Hippopotamus Defense? Queen's Pawn Opening: Australian Defense? Well neither have I and these openings definitely make you lose by a lot, that's the reason no one has heard of them.
