I just opened up the app and saw my myself become a platinum member even though I didn't purchase it? How did this happen? Am I being falsely charged money for it?

Actually, you're Diamond.
Maybe someone gifted you a membership or the site gave you a trial membership. There is no way you are being charged, unless you provided payment details.
You could of won in a quiz in a chesstv quiz or gift
