The silicone pieces are not as nice as a weighted set at all.

Also, you very well might have to pay customs for your country when a set is sent to you internationally.  And that can be expensive.  I would check that out before ordering.  The seller might not be aware of your country's custom fees either.

Hmm, thanks for the tip. I'm new to buying these sets and I look for ones which involve really high quality which will last for many, many years for using. Is it better weighted silicone or weighted standard plastic? I think silicone boards are the best.

Eyechess

The silicone pieces are not that nice to play with.  I bought a set and after playing with them for about an hour, I gave the set away to a child.

The silicone pieces have no weight added as they are solid silicone.  The pieces do not feel that good in the hand to play with.

Unfortunately you are looking for high quality and want a very low price.  The lower priced sets do not have the high quality.  You do get what you pay for.

I know. Nowadays Chess equipment is really priced.

So, it's better to buy the standard plastic pieces? And silicone board?

So, do you recommend crafting my own wooden chess set?

Rsava

Crafting your own wooden set is a skill and requires some special tools (a lathe for one, I believe). Do you have woodworking skills? Do you have access to tools?

There are lots of videos on YouTube about making your own wooden set.

You do realise that 'free shipping' just means that the postage cost has simply been added to the original price of the product?

Nothing in this life is free.

Hi. I'm now looking at Chess Geeks for their Quadruple Weighted Chess Set with Silicone board. I just need an Premier bag to store them.

Best is to buy a decent wooden chess set and pay the extra cash. With cheap chess sets you may end up buying one after another due to their poor quality and only to realise one day that you have ended up spending money on them than the price of any luxury chess set.

Hi. You're right, nowadays you can't trust quality. But, I have a question for you. Would you play on that Luxurious wooden chess set or any other wooden chess set on tournaments and in clubs? Also, they are not as portable as the Plastic sets.

Tournaments offer the chess sets and the player does not need to bring his own, however, if the player wishes to look different from the rest of the players he is best to use a plastic one again not luxury wooden.

Hi. In Serbia the tournament organizers don't offer the chess sets and clocks. Players need to bring their own sets and clocks. I'm planning to buy Chessgeeks's quadruple weighted chess set with silicone board and I requested from them to make premier tournament chess bag so that I could store those big pieces and an big clock in the future. As how I calculated it would be around 60$ with shipping.

Dario19503

I decided not to buy a cheap plastic set because I think it won't last long. I think Chessgeeks offers good plastic sets.

Dario19503

Has anyone ever bought Chess Geeks's quadruple weighted chess set? Are they made of high quality?

I'd like to hear from you.

Dario19503

So you didn't buy from Chess Geeks yet?

Dario19503

Thanks for the advices. I'll think of something.

Dario19503

They do, but the shipping cost is way too huge because I live in Serbia, which is so far from America.

Dario19503

I need one Tournament chess set as I'm heading to some tournaments really soon and I need to bring my own tournament chess set.

I'd like to hear from you.

I have that set and I'm very happy with it.  It's a little tight on a 2-1/4" board but it works.  Another plastic set I have is the "Protourney" set from The Chess Store.  It's a more standard 3-3/4" king height but is also solid and well weighted.  Either set will stand up to years of playing and abuse and will be no worse for it.

My own experiences with both the Chess Geeks and the Chess Store have been positive.

Hello! Looks like Chess Geeks has good products, Do you live in America? If you don't, did you pay huge shipping costs to deliver the product? Thank you for your help!

Hello. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think Chess Geeks' quadruple weighted chess set is somewhat better. However, thank you for your help!

Dario,

I would recommend getting a hold of the guys and London Chess and Bridge.  They ship internationally and have a great selection.  I am sure they could fill your needs.  Helps that it is also owned by IM Malcolm Pein.

As for looking for free international shipping...good luck with that.  International Shipping is very expensive and anyone who offers it will just have built it into their prices anyways.  You should just look for a reputable seller first and worry about the shipping later.

Their website is http://shop.chess.co.uk/  I have had nothing but great experiences with them.  Talk to Paul or Tao.

thanks

Shelby

Thanks for your suggestion, Shelby! I was browsing through their website and I've seen interesting plastic chess set combinations. I just don't know if the pieces are triple, quadruple weighted or even less?

One question. Are the pieces really quadruple weighted (4 lbs)? Are they extremely durable? Did they fall from the table sometime and break? Do you live outside America? If you do, how much was the shipping cost? Thank you for informations!
