I need to get good

I love chess, but I suck at it. I think im the lowest level possible. Can someone please tell me how to get better, apart from tactics, because I am already doing that.

Learn how to mate with queen and king, rook and king and then learn pawn endgames. Wikipedia is actually pretty good for all this.

Post one of your games, and if you get lucky some of the higher-rated people will spend a little time analysing it to give you some ideas about how they think while playing a game of chess. Good luck!:)

You're at the level of a beginner. Believe me when I say there are people not nearly as good as you.

You allready said it, tactics is a good. But I think you need more than just the tactics puzzles. I think you need to stick to 1 opening move in the beginning and e4 or d4 would be that move. Play classical chess, get a better understanding of the principles of the game. I also feel that on your level a beginnersbook with some of the common themes (king opposition, forks, pins, smothered mates, en passant, passed pawns, two rooks vs king, queen vs king, 1 rook vs king) could be really beneficial.

And look at your games. Look at the games you won, look at the games you lost. You are probably still blundering away pieces, learn to not only see your 'best' move... but before you move, make sure you also consider your opponents best move.

I'm a bit higher rated and also trying to get better, so I know where you coming from. It takes practice and even study to get better.

And 1 more thing, this is chess. "good" is a very relative term. Don't focus on getting good. Focus on getting better. Because we mere mortals, might never get good.

Ah, i've taken a look at your games. I didn't realize your 1080 rating was from two time-outed games. I want to suggest you start playing games with longer time-controls. So you have enough time to think before making a move. Blitz is exciting and fun, but it's a different game than regular chess. I don't think it will benefit you in your quest to become a better player at this moment.

Just had a new game taking your longer game advice, but im not good at analyzing my gameplay. And I do need one of those books, because I have no idea what any of those terms mean. Can you recomend any?

Wilbert_78

I don't have any real beginners book to recommend, but I would really focus on 'chess for dummies' sort of book. Pick a book that really is written with people in mind that still have to learn how to move the pieces. Since you know how to move the pieces, you can skip those 1 or 2 chapters (or just read them, might be something in them like 'en passant' that you don't know right now).

For now, stay away from novice books like Reassess my chess or My System. Those come right after the real beginners book.

I did hear other people say that Bobby Fischer teaches chess is a nice book and the complete idiot's guide to chess also seems nice for this purpose. Remember, you're starting at the bottom with the basics. But other people might recommond even better books.

This National Master recommends The complete idiot's guide: http://danheisman.home.comcast.net/~danheisman/Events_Books/General_Book_Guide.htm

And who am I to disagree with a master...

(and btw, no worries though, once you spend the time to do the excersises in such a book, you'll be hitting a 1000-1200 rating. When you get that rating, you'll be able to beat almost every 'casual' player. Then it gets fun!)
