As said, I quit chess a year ago and only a couple days ago did I start back up. While I have vague recollections of certain types of opening theory, only the basic openings have stuck with me, such as the Italian game and Queen's Gambit. Besides that, I feel that I am blundering way more frequently, as I often overlook indirect threats. Will my previous skill come back to me, or will I have to relearn the stepping stones of chess completely? Will I begin to look many moves ahead more frequently. Currently, at a rating of around 1100, I win 25% of my games; most of them I lose to overseeing technical plays. If anyone has been or is in my situation right now, please give me some tips on how to get reimmersed into chess. As of right now, I am watching daily videos by Agadmator and watching videos on how to play certain positions, openings, and endgames. I feel like the bane which holds me back is limited end game theory and technical middle games. Please suggest any videos or books which would be particularly useful for me. Thanks for your help!

PS: Do you think the game analysis and lessons would help me if I bought a rank?

I stopped playing for twenty years. When I started again, it only took me a few months to knock most of the rust off.

Wow. What was your skill level before you quit?

I started back up recently too. I’m almost 1100 in daily games. I started playing people 300 to 700 ahead of my rating. I watch how they play and some are giving me advice. I think I’m improving fast, plus you lose little to no rating points when you lose. (Often). One guy just turned me onto the beginning analysis tool on daily games. It gives you good options.

Last 40 years I found myself playing quite a lot for periods and then leave the game for years, then suddenly start again. It doesn’t take long to get most of your skill back. Especially speed en and vision are terrible the first days, but are back on normal level after two or three weeks. Opening theory and traps I tend to forget and only return after relearning. And falling for the traps again, iam afraid.

Hello everyone. Thank you for your responses. Not only did they assure me that I will improve and return to my normal state as time passes, but gave me motivation to continue playing the game.

Over-the-board, around 2000. Not sure how that translates to chess.com Daily ratings.
