I used to think chess was FUN! . . .

learned the moves around 1953 because six friends and I were bored . . . I began playing more and more because it was fun . . . Joined Geo Koltanowkis chess club in San Francisco . . . I kept playing until I had two kids and had to focus on the family . . . I got up to a "B" USCF rating focusing on hAving FUN . . . I just played wether I won or lost I was having FUN . . .

Then I learned to play blindfold chess at work so I wouldn't get fired . . . Using the old descriptive notation . . .

I gave it up for a while . . .

I taught my four boys the moves and openings . . . it was still fun . . . But now I keep thinking that I want to win and not go down in my my chess.com rating . . . Too bad cause I have forgotten about the FUN part . . .

The fun part of chess for me is teaching at the local library to young beginning players . . .

I love teaching, I have 20 boards, a display board, some clocks, and beginning and advanced booklets I give the students . . . there is no charge to them . . .

Bet you're a great teacher Denver and that's where you will find your fun. Ignore your rating. It is only a number.

I second what Pam said. I hope you can find fun as a player again.

Wow! Great service to humanity! I wish you were in Maryland when I coached a high school chess club, I'm sure you would have not only improved their games, you would have improved their attitudes!

"I want to win and not go down in my my chess.com rating . . . Too bad cause I have forgotten about the FUN part . . . "

Don't worry about your rating, just think about the fun - especially in the daily games you prefer. Right now I've reached a critical position in a game and can't wait to see what my opponent does.  Win or lose, it's a fun game just to have arrived at such a position!

True, don t look at your rating. It just fluctuating and is not that importent!

Just play for the fun. Then chess is fun and stays it this way.

Some players don t play anymore because there are afraid that they will lose!

This is so sad. Not necessary !  You will win and lose the more you play then better is goes. You will not get any better by not playing anymore!

It s all about the fun so dont care about the results to much. I agree with Sam.

Have fun! Chess is indeed fun!

Heck, I'm just a young brat at 63...but I will be your friend and play you any day Denver....sending a request....I don't care much about ratings...gave up obsessing over them.

Thanks for all your comments . . . I EVEN picked up a new friend . . . I'm going to invite him to join The GEEZERS match club since he is the right age . . .

In December I will be 80 an I will have a chess party . . .

Today I went to teach chess at the library I expected at least 20, since last week I had 22 . . . Low and behold at the start time of 4:06 pm only five players were there . . .

"What are we going to do today coach" one of them asked . . . I said "Each of you Set up a board in front of you and you are going to play me."

They looked pretty happy about it . . .

I told them that they couldn't move until I came to their board just like the Masters do it . .

We started at 4:15 pm and the last board ended at 5pm . . . During the whole time I used their games to show them how to think while waiting, make mental moves before making real ones . .

All during I would make comments and they did too . . . I know they had fun and so did I . . .

They weren't unhappy when they were mated. . . One was elated when I made an illegal move and waited until I came around and said, "I didn't know you could take your own pawn?" That was a laughing moment all the players watched all the games around them . . .

Next Thursday we are doing it again since it is the last time we meet until September . . .

I won all the games . . . Next week they have to write down the games on paper . . . I'm not going to play I have a player that hasn't lost a game since the beginning and he will play them . . .

Hey, that was a fun session . . .

Sounds like you and I are in the same boat.  Easter weekend was probably my last tournament.  I just dont have the desire to prepare for tournament play anymore, I love to teach, and work with my students.  For me that is where my passion for chess lies.

Hopefully your passion will no longer lie with SPAMMING the forum over and over and over and over with your [Comment Removed] MOD.

Yes Chess is fun.  I ignore my rating, and that little bit of presser goes poof.  And then i can concentrate on my game.

Denver keep having fun. For me the fun is trying to come up with some wild combination and create a piece of art on the board.
