i only found out recently it reached folklore status, with him going public with it in 2001 in his chess column in a national newspaper and it even being reported on nbc news
i even now have the copy of fritz 5 i had i had it when i played short yes
fritz 5.32 or something like that was the best version of fritz in 2001 and in a 3 minute game i think they were i had no way of linking it to the icc interface and no spare computer(tablets hadnt been invented then)

i care about getting the truth out there-i have long given up trying to make a name for myself in chess and am not posting this for vain reasons as i dont actually believe it myself and i know its very likely to be the truth from what i know. So what someone looking at this without evidence might think i can just guess.

Not saying you used it, but you have posted before that you had Fritz 5 in 1996. It was around 2400 or so strength I suppose. Not strong enough to defeat Short though.
