Identify the dilettantes

Sort:
Rolandwood

On my online chess page it says that there are 52,947 ranked players on Chess.com and that I'm ranked 8,548th. I felt good about myself until it occurred to me that there are probably 40,000 players who have joined Chess.com and only played a couple of games.

Do the powers that be ever purge these dilettantes?

Do we know how many players log on to Chess.com in a given day?

At what ranking can you call yourself a decent player?

Looking at the home page, it says total members: 385,079, so I think the 52,947 already takes such purges into account.

You're only ranked after 20 games, so anyone playing less than that won't appear on the 52k list, but they'll still be shown as registered members.

I think that to be decent the line is about 1500, and a line for a strong player is about 1700, and a line for a very strong player is 2000.
