shooting out random stuff that comes into your head is not creativity.
If Chess Were Created Now...

If chess were invented today, a big Corporation would hold the copyright and anytime someone tried to play without using pieces sold by the Corporation they would be sued for millions of dollars by the Corporation and that would make the game played on bootleg pieces wildly popular because everyone enjoys thumbing their noses at the Corporation.

Yes, I do! I call it "American NeoGothic":

just spotted a typo in the thread title.
Was it the one I mentioned? Because that would make your comment totally pointless, wouldn't it?

If chess was created now, there would be cheerleaders for each side, bent on distracting the opponent with skimpy clothing and sleeping with the star chess player after a major win. (Sounds like American football to me! )

Also, different squares on the board would have special attributes, like a dense forest where your piece turns invisible, or a hill which would give the piece standing on it more defense points. Like in Advance Wars (a videogame).

If chess was created now, it would be more like Pokemon, where you just let your level 50 Houdini battle the other guy's Rybka level 25 over and over again for extra XP

Past tense subjunctive is "were". "If Chess were created now" is more correct than If chess was created now.
"If I were a rich man...."
Creativity is a crutch!
