if Fischer was in his prime today

if Fischer was in his prime today exactly when he won the title, how would he rank against today's gm's? Considering today's theory and engine use as a factor? I want an objective answer and none of that political correctness that he was scared of Fischer or a cry baby.

It's a silly question that is impossible to answer "objectively".

/This discussion will invariably detour into a discussion of his political beliefs.

I want an objective answer and none of that political correctness that he was scared of Fischer or a cry baby.

//That "He", who? ,was scared of Fischer? Karpov? What does that have to do with your question about how Fischer would do today?

Fischer almost gave up chess after becoming champion, so I think he would just stop his career to pursue other things.

He was scared of Fischer ? I take it you mean Karpov....

Why is it so important to know how good Fischer would fare against todays Grandmasters ?

Are you just starting yet another Fischer thread to see everyone rise to the bait ?

Without a super computer analysing all the relevant criteria for comparitive strength, then the Question is moot and a matter of opinion.

You want an objective answer ?.....I would like an objective answer...PLease.

Good point.

Say what you like about Bobby Fischer, he was a superb chess player, one of the greats. He would more than hold his own against any of todays players.

Do you mean he would have the modern theory or not? If he had the modern theory and computers he would in all likelihood be number 1.

He also wouldn't need to have the modern theory very long, give him six months to come up to date.

Talfan1

i agree with eciruam if bobby was as full of the love of chess as he was he would push all the new masters all the way

Look at todays giants of chess they stand on the shoulders of the titans of the past without who they wouldnt be anywhere near as good

but thats open to debate i guess

my point present masters study Fischer ,Tal Alekhine ,Petrossian

Fischer likely would have continued to increase in strength until 1977.

Had Fischer taken the available place in the 1977 Candidates matches, he likely would have played a Candidates Final vs Korchnoi.

We never saw Fischer in his prime.
