Bobby SHOULD have played ...

robert james fischer .

Spassky and Fischer were good friends....Spassky said that Fischer, inside, was like a diamond....he also said that, besides chess, Fischer had nothing. Perhaps Spassky's greatest tribute to his friend is that, when he went to visit Fischer's grave in Iceland, Spassky asked "Can I buried here, too?".....

I have an opinion to say thet karpov would win because he sounds like a strong player on chess.com!!!

... a strange judgment thAt Karpov would win just because "he sounds like a strong player on chess.com" Smile

Now his 160 FIDE tournament wins would be a stonger basis to agrue for a Karpov victory.

But the Chess.com arguement, that's.... yeah.

I have no idea who would win, but it's definitely a match I would like to see.

People want to play here, but people would not like to see players like @filthysht on this site ... People WANT TO PLAY HERE, and with good people who do not say dirty words like "you arent going to survive this you little dickless piece of shit". @filthysht, if you do not like chess but just like to offend other people - what are you doing on chess.com?

I like both players and learned a lot from Fischer and Karpov but if a match took place in 1975, I believe Fischer would win. Fischer with his aggressive and dynamic style would been too much for Karpov. Karpov was leading in 1974 Candidates Match against Korchnoi but choke and Korchnoi was able to win and even the score and Karpov won the last game. The final score was Karpov 12.5 and Korchnoi 11.5. Too close and if Karpov had a difficult time with Korchnoi, can you imagine Fischer who is even more aggressive.

My view: a few months after the Fischer-Spassky match, Fischer would win

A few years after that same match, Karpov would win.

Unfortunately, we'll bever know :(

Yes. Hes upset, because his mommy didn't hug him enough. Lonely, and looking for attention.

If he was half a man, he would have a girlfirend, and wouldn't need to troll internet forums to get noticed.

In 1981 Karpov would won against Fischer. Karpov was amazing!!! He beat Korchnoi using the Queen's gambit declined all his games against 1.d4, that is good classical style at its best.I truly admire Karpov but in 1975 and 1978 Fischer would of won.

I do admire Fisher as a chess player, and we all are aware of his chess strength. I do regret that Bobby was just not playing chess as it is, always something "disturbed" Bobby to simply play chess - sums of money, colours of table-clothes and many more - or Bobby just was looking constantly for something to disturb him playing normal pure chess. Saying again - Karpov simply played chess and was not distracted by money, colours of table-clothes etc. - he simply loved chess as it is, without involving any dirty stuff there which was not related to normal pure chess. Karpov was ready to play, ready to win or to lose. And saying again - if Bobby felt really confident in that match - HE WOULD HAVE PLAYED, and HE REALLY SHOULD HAVE PLAYED. I do think Bobby had a bit more chances to win that match than Anatoly, but for some reasons Fisher preferred to be defeated, evading struggle ... pitty

I think Fischer was a better player than Karpov and probably would have won if you was in shape to play, but he clearly did not want to play.  It was almost a miracle he even completed the match against Spassky. Fishcer was a genius but mentally ill as was the other great American Master Morphy. Both stopped playing after they proved to themselves that they were the best. That way they did not have risk losing in the future and damaging their fragile egos.

Karpov would have won.

Bobby, no question.

If the estimated chances had been, say, 10% to 90%, it's true - there would be no doubt in saying "no question" ... And if the estimated chances had been really 10% to 90% in 1975, I think Bobby would have agreed to play that match ...

All you people that think Bobby was afraid to play have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Tracking turned off!

The only thing here to say is that it's very pitty that Bobby decided to evade struggle, giving no chance to get to know the best one.

Why don't we just ask houdini ?
