I always thought that idiomatic meant an unnecessary our stupid automation of a task that was perfectly fine when performed manually.

As in: The Slap-Chop, Flowbee and Pedi Paws are all idiomatic devices.

Wouldn't that be idiotic? I mean the word, not the fact that you thought that.

I guess because I thought Idiotic doesn't have the requirement that it be a form of automation.

I'm such an idiom.

The first chess player to sell his soul to the devil and made publically known was Akiba Rubinstein (1882-1961).  I quote Chess Review magazine, September 1949, page 257 in  a reader's forum called What is the Secret?  It's about how Rubinstein was a lousy player, then he disappeared several months, returned and beat everyone in the world after that.  "Perhaps the superstitious ones will accuse Rubinstein of having sold his soul to the devil in return for chess greatness."

As long as God does not stop you, yes, you would.

Buttt... You may consider that God could send a moron to defeat you and make you cry.

I sold my soul to the devil. Now I can't dance any more. Frown

But, hey, the double-dip rocky-road was worth it.

Since finishing dead last in Sinquefield cup 2014, Nakamura has had 7 good results including 3 tournament wins in a row, ask him.

I think you overestimate the value of your soul.

Oh, absolutely! Selling your soul to the devil is the foolproof, guaranteed way to become the best chess player in the world. The devil himself will personally possess your chess pieces, making them move with unparalleled brilliance. You'll have an unfair advantage, and everyone will marvel at your demonic chess skills. Just a small detail: be prepared for eternal damnation and the occasional fiery chessboard. But hey, who needs a soul when you can checkmate everyone, right?
