If Magnus retired tomorrow, who would dominate next and why?

I personally think that some Indian superstar would prevail, but let me know your thoughts.

If Magnus retired tomorrow, the title fight would most likely shift toward a new generation Indian prodigy—especially Praggnanandhaa or Gukesh.

I don't think we will have someone like Magnus that will be able to play 2800 performance chess in classic, rapid and blitz for quite some time.
Gukesh is a great classical player but he has a long way to go until he has that sort of performance in rapid and blitz. Firouzja is a bullet and blitz beast but he has lots of ups and downs in classical.

In a way it will be more fun watching hese youngsters fighting for the top spot.

I feel like because Ding became world champion he would be the new "Greatest".

But more likely to be Gukesh or Hikaru.

But even if Magnus did retire, he will very well be remembered as the greatest of all time.

Gukesh: pretty good but needs some work when it comes to the skill level that Magnus has

Hikaru: world number 2 but will more likely retire instead of becoming the next best.

The next dominant player certainly won't be a veteran player like Hikaru or Fabi. Maybe one of the youngsters.

It is also possible that no dominant player will emerge for a long time. It's a pretty common situation in chess history. Players who dominate for a decade or more are rare.
