I've lost to a little girl at the club. Don't even think she's 8 yet. 8[
If you had to be beaten by 8 yr old GMs every day...

there are no 8 yr old GMs?

I would be happy to play a GM, publicized or not

Well, even if not GMs, just some really strong playing kid who could beat you without even blinking... And you had to endure it repeatedly...
Look at the 3rd guy from the right.

If a child can figure it out, then ffs, I should be able to figure it out. They must have crystal-clear comprehension that adults don't have anymore.

there are a lot of conditions and what ifs in your hypothetical situation so i guess it "depends on..."
But i get the jist of what your asking and the answer is yes because i play to play, not play to feel superior. The fact that an 8yr old could "pwn" me any day of the week dosent change that i enjoy the analysis, i may never get as good as him but the challenge would definetely make me the best i could be... and i NEED to know where that is, i'd actually welcome the chance because it would accelerate my goals. I guarantee that child would get board of kicking my butt before i got tired of getting crushed.

If that was true then those kids would not grow up to be GMs as adults, right? But that is often not the case.

Children who understand it from a young age won't lose the skills if they keep practicing. They'll get even better at it, supposedly. Unless they plateau, which people do. Adults learning chess at age 30 have way more on their minds...clouding the comprehension.

i'd be all like
"look superman!"
*reverse board*
everyone watching tv would laugh and laugh
Then id tell him how i like to bad touch his momma, and then just go on and on with the table talk until he cries quits or blunders... just like playing chess in the federal penitentiary

i know that i can catch him very soon if i stop doing my priorities and focus on chess since he is just 8 but i am a mature person.

Yeah, that evolved mature egalitarian detached egoless philosophical attitude that gives you an edge in terms of neutrality and perserverance when facing an onslaught of losses inflicted by a child.

Little known fact - the guy at the top, second from the left, is Adolph Hitler's brother, Bernie Hitler.
Uh oh...does this count as a Godwin?

Hey thats the advantage of being a grown up. if chess teaches us anything it is to use every little advantage we can get... maybe id even use one of those high pitched sound emitters that only children can hear... oops thats actualy do able by downloading a cell phone ringtone... dont anybody actually do that to the kids; come on have some class people :P
If you were playing publicized games of chess every day and losing to young children, who did it easily, without their even breaking a sweat, and your chance of ever achieving anywhere near their level or speed, regardless of your effort was virtually nil, would your ego allow you to continue playing or dedicating a lot of time to chess, regardless of any rationalizations and attempts to wrap it in some kind of perspective or a non-chalant attitude?
